You can quote all the stats you like that say Steph is still great, then I watch the games and see how old he looks most of the time. He's slower, not as able to blow by defenders as he used to. Frequently he starts games with little interest in being on the ball. That was fine when the team was stacked with talent and athletic wings and the roster was experienced and full of intelligent players able to play in the read and react flow of the motion offense. Now? He is the only reliable shot creator on the team and the only other player with a good handle is Podz. Podz has many flaws offensively he doesn't have an efficient shot in his bag and can't hit a 3 to save his life because his mechanics are wonky. Melton's injury is huge because he was the one guy that was a perfect fit next to Steph in that starting line up. Very solid on both ends of the floor despite his small size. He was fairly good at everything. Now though they have no good options to slot at the 2 spot next to Steph. Teams have also started to figure out counters to Stackhouses's trapping defensive scheme so they need to figure out some other options or the slide will continue. Steph alone can't carry the team, that's been obvious for a few seasons. Over the course of regular season he will and is quickly wearing down. Donkey too can still be great in spots defensively and he is at least hitting the wide open 3s he gets at a better rate. But good defences punish the team for him being the offensive black hole that he is. He's no threat to score 90% of the time and his passes have become oh so predictable. Between him and Steph you can usually guarantee 8+ turnovers a game to start which the team simply cannot afford anymore they aren't good enough. The system and way the team plays has to change or else it's just going to be a sorry extended retirement tour for Steph for the next few years. They won't really compete for anything meaningful and they've just about squandered all their young prospects for the future because Kerr doesn't trust them and is unwilling to give them the playing time they need to develop or change the way the team plays to help them.

I agree, it looks a lot like it'll be an extended retirement tour, especially as we pass another trade deadline with ownership clearly not concerned about improving the team and holding on to the young players to prioritise long-term winning, even if it likely means not competing at an elite level FWIW, it does look like Draymond understands how horrible his offensive game was/is ageing and it's only a small sample size but he is shooting it better, and diversifying his shot diet. If he can remain a semi-reliable shooter and Kuminga can (finally) step up, there may be enough ball handlers around Steph but I'm not sold
