If you can play the first position F chord okay not the full bar you can always alternate the bass notes by just wrapping your thumb on the first fret of the low E making a F and then just hitting the D which you already have in the third fret in the F chord to begin with. You are right about C becoming a c/g for the bass notes it is much easier

The original songwriters of the song should get a percentage of his performances and sales. There are different types of rights associated with recordings and live performances (mechanical, performance and sync royalties). But Chris can still perform the songs. In fact it helps make the original songwriters even more money when an artist like Stapleton makes it a hit. Hopefully all involved win and everyone profits some.
