Denmark here. I'm a home owner, of a 95 m2 = 1,022.5 sq. ft. house in the outskirts of the 2nd largest city in Denmark (exactly a 15 minute drive from the center). The house was partly renovated in late 2021 (new 3-layer/triple pane windows, new doors, new red tile roof). The house mortgage is just around UK £340 a month + a £160 private homeowners cooperative community association fee (which include property taxes, a homeowners' insurance, outdoor/external maintenance and renovations, including, windows, roof, private community roads and sidewalks, snow plowing and salt spreading service, trash & garbage disposal service). My electricity bill is around £40 a month, £20 for cold water, while the hot water/heating bill is around £50 a month in fixed monthly installments, but my suppliers neither use oil or gas, only renewables. So around £500 a month all included + £110 a month for water, electricity and heating 5G speed fiber Internet, 2 phone (also 5G) + an extra large TV package = £140 a month Food and all the other stuff you would need = £250 a month (which include a 25% VAT sales tax on everything). So all included I spend around £1,000 a month to pay for all the basic necessities. I earn around £206 to £296 a day, depending on the hours and day of the week, and my present part-time job as a night watch with no degree required (though I do have one) is nothing fancy. My income taxes are around 25% when you consider all the deductibles and that I do not work full-time, so now you go do the math of how much I need to work, and remember it all include free healthcare. and you do not have to pay, but get paid up to around £745 a month to study at university college or at any equal higher level.

Sweden does not have an independence day since it was never conquered by anyone else. Also the 1523 date is when Gustavus Wasa was crowned and the personal union with denmark and norway ended. The first king of the union was a swede who was given the kingdom of norway and married the queen of denmark. When he died the queen just inherited the crown of all three countries, but they were never united into a single state and had different parliaments. One could argue that The only time the scandinavian countries was united was under Ivar Vidfamne in the 600's. But due to lack of contemporary sources, we do not know if Ivar was a Geet, a Gute, a Swede, a Dane, a Scanian, a Norwegian or anything else, what we do know is that he drowned in the finnish sea when jumping off a ship AD697.

Here in Norway it's good if you live in a small community. But the elites don't want us to form a too norwegian patriotism. So they distribute asylumseeker, woke and DEI to us. Despite Norway's huge fortune they want to 'save money' by closing down schools in rural areas. That doesn't sound right, does it? Unless when you figure out that closed schools are perfect for asylum centres. We protested, but there is no chance to overturn this, since EVERY part of the government is against us. Before the asylum seekers arrived I was driving at night close to what was to become the asylum centre. I was pulled over by the police. More than anything else, they were trying to stop anyone from setting fire to the asylym centre.

Yeah but it was a state/nation/kingdom from 872 to 1520 then under danish crown until 1814, then we were independent for around a year. In 1815 the swedes came and we surrendered to their crown becoming a minor state under their personal union with us. After this in 1905 we became independent after the swedish people said no to a war that would retake Norway. So saying "Norway wasnt a county before 1905" is wrong. Its like saying Russia is only 20 years old because it became a democratic nation in 1991.
@fredriks50904 күн бұрын
@@user-gr5tx6rd4hActually, Harald Hårfagre did NOT found Norway in 872,- he sacked it. He prepared to sack Nordvegr by FIRST rounding up all the OTHER petty kingdoms and chiefdoms of the southern region. The Battle of Hafrsfjord was in southern Rogaland, but the name "Nordvegr" was a colloquial name for northern Rogaland, where the kings seat of Avaldsnes was located. The previous king surrendered to Harald when he won at Hafrsfjord, and one of his sons who did not agree with his parents surrender ran away to Iceland. Geirmund Heljarskinn was his name, and Hjør his fathers name. So the name Nordvegr was in use to describe Avaldsnes/Kormt(Karmøy) prior to being adopted by Harald as a name for the UNITED Norway. It's a bit like how the name for Skåne came to mean all of Skandinavia. The name Nordvegr was just expanded by Harald Fairhair.

Yes Norway is technically older, but as Norway in opposition to Denmark has been annected for most of its history, Denmark is officially the oldest nordic country that has never been annected by others (the only slight exception being during WW2, but still then Denmark was technically independent and was more a german client state than a fully occupied part of nazi germany.)

@andersvinnefors58914 күн бұрын
This is true only before 1523 when Gustav Eriksson was elected to a king. Further, even before that the king was chosen from families related to each other. Examples are Albrekt who was elected 1364 and Erik in the first half of next century. The latter had queen Margareta of Denmark as grandmother, and had been married to king hakon of Norway, who in turn was a son to Magnus Eriksson a king of Sweden who inhereted the kingdomship of Norway. Much of the "democracy" in Sweden also depended on the fact that most farmers owned there own land in contrast Europe in general.

IM SO FUCKING TIRED OF PEOPLE FORGETTING NORWAY IS THE OLDEST OFFICIALLY ESTABLISHED KINGDOM IN THE NORDICS. NORWAY WAS CREATEDAT FROSTA TINGET IN THE YEAR 872 FFS. WE ARE 1151 years old, not 100 and some change >:(>:(>:(

I think it's because Norway has been occupied by its neighbors for such a large portion of it's history, that people just assume it came into existence when it finally regained its independence.

Yo historically speaking it is also important to note we have always wanted to have these unions and allegiances. To emphasize that a union is indeed a partnership, we were never owned directly in that sense by either sweden or denmark, because neither ever wished there to be higher tensions in the region and political instability between nations. We, in Norway were also hit extremely hard by the black death and was lucky that our neighbors wanted to help build us back up and not just completely take over. Much of that comes from the fact that the royal families that own the lands are so well tied together, and practically very close relatives to each other. So in some sense, this is why we as Scandinavians also call each others people as brothers and sisters, because we already view ourselves in a way of being the same people. We of course joke and tease eachother, and I think I speak for a lot of people when I say it always comes from a place of deep love. This is fundamental to how we have developed, and it is something our people have grown to be known for across europe, and is something a lot of Scandinavians take great pride in. But back to your post here, I totally agree, but the thing is the thing people point to as Norways birth today is when Norway became democratic. This is a monumental part of the history of the Norwegian people. I really could write an essay on this, but will leave it at that 😂
@Helperbot-20004 күн бұрын
@@ARJAY_NO ah yes, we were so hapy to stay in union that at the first chance of independence we took it and created a constitution, we were forced into another union anyways, and got out of it almost through a war that didnt happpen just because the swedish population didnt want a war with us
@jonnor68833 күн бұрын
Well, the danish kings, after the fall of Kalmar union, were kings over the kingdoms Denmark and Norway. Even if most Danes seems to forget this. The union between Norway and Sweden was a personal union. Same king, but different parliaments and economies

I mean it was when gustav got sweden its independence. Honestly swedish history is difficult, because before year 1100 its hard to find documents on it all. Its possible swedish history stretches even further, since there has been people in sweden since atleast 12000 years back.

@@hajkie I mean ... the northern most tribe was called "Svear" which we took the name of our kingdom from. The land of the Svea people. If we had named the Kingdom Gotland after the West and East Goth tribes, the capitol would've been Visby 🤣

One "easy" answer: We used the wealth for the people, not to make some few even more wealthy at the expense of the people. But that is changing and we are starting to vote more and more like USA, increasing the wealth gap, privatizing everything and making it all about growth and profit for a select few - who often don't even live nor pay taxes here. So dw we will be just as greedy and screwed soon and at the mid of the rankings.

You don't hear much of Iceland these days it seems. Last thing I heard was about the day of Women's protest. I laughed so hard at that, hearing that the only thing it really amounted to was increased productivity in the areas not shut down, and that no HR complaints were filed anywhere in the country that day 😂 It's as if Icelandic women think there's been no progress since the last time it happened 🤣
