Now you're speaking my language. These prospects are trade chips that you use to get better in 2025. We have too many young LH bats and need elite pitching. Trade them before they make their MLB debut. I prefer proven MLB talent over unproven prospects. PS The imagery with the players is really cool. Hopefully, it helps people understand the logjam we have and why we need to make trades.

I agree to an extent, but imagine if Boston still had Kopech? I think sometimes the team needs to exert some restraint. Patience. Understanding the exact needs helps, having a crystal ball is nice too. I don't know enough about Mayer to know how good he will be. Campbell too. But I agree with you, that I want proven talent. I would send a package to Texas for Semien in a heartbeat. That opens up other trade possibilities and secures 2b. Maybe Story's dealt for a healthier option.

If Craig Breslow is going to acquire a young, "top of the rotation starter" by trade this off season, he is going to have to be willing to part ways with one of their top "under 25 year old" talents ... Casas ? Anthony ? Campbell ? Teel ? Duran ? Rafaela ? I'd say these six players are likely untouchable ... With pitching being in relatively short supply and heavily sought after by most MLB teams, an overpay also will need to be in place for Breslow to get this accomplished ... Realistically I don't see John Henry giving Breslow the "green light" in signing Max Fried who will be turning 31 on January 18th ... Henry has been burned too much financially on 30 plus year old starters to go this route again anytime soon ... That leaves Marcelo Meyer along with Wilyer Abreu as the primary trade pieces to bring in a young pitching stud ... With pitching being in relatively short supply and heavily sought after by most MLB teams, an overpay also will need to be in place for Breslow to get this accomplished ...

You pretty much hit on everything. There's 1,001 IFs. Let me make 3 points... 1. Roman in LF, Abreu in RF, Mayer at SS, Campbell at 2b, and Teel at C means growing pains and years until Boston makes the postseason. That doesn't fit in with Boston's plans to reach the postseason in 25. 2. Max Fried has been signing 1 year deals with Atlanta since 2019. Why is it a given that he's leaving the Braves now? Has Max or the team said he's leaving? What I like is his world series experience and his pick off move. He's hard to steal on. I think he'd be a solid addition, but is he still considered elite? He's not lights out. 3. I actually think Rafaela would make good trade bait, so maybe you can whip up a video about that. My reasoning is... - I want Duran to play CF - Story is fine at SS and when hurt, the team can ease Mayer in, use Hamilton, whatever - I think Rafaela needs too much help at the plate. Granted Rafaela could do this or that, but I'm mostly curious if people felt his stock rose or dropped this year, based on the hope and expectation (vs actuals). How much will fans miss him, could Boston be better without him. Alright, I'll leave it there before I set the needle on the record player to repeat.

You're right about spending the money - there are some free agent pitching options that they could realistically get, that would transform this team. If they match the top offers for Max Fried, I think they win him because of his friend Lucas Giolito. And the same approach might then work to get Jack Flaherty to sign, though the friendship there might not be as strong. Now you have a rotation with those three and Houck and Bello, that's solid 1 through 5. Fitts and Priester are starting depth in the minors, and you're adding whoever is healthy from Hendriks, Crawford, Criswell, and Whitlock to your bullpen, which should improve it. If they could then add free agent Tanner Scott, that puts them over the top. All of that could be done without a single trade. Now you have too many position players, but some of them have options. After Duran/Devers/Casas and two catchers, you have 8 spots for position players. If you trade Yoshida and option Hamilton, Sogard, and Valdez, you've got room for these 8: Rafaela Abreu Refsnyder Gonzalez Anthony Story Grissom Campbell That's 7 right-handed bats versus 6 left-handed bats - no need to become more right-handed. By the time Mayer is ready to come up, one of those guys is sure to be injured, making some room for him. And if not, they'll probably be close to the trade deadline and will be in a great position to adjust to whatever misfortunes happened in the first half with some trades.

The Atlanta braves need a shortstop. I saw something about how the Braves take on Story and his Salary for a couple low minor players. I love this idea. I would not move Mayer.I would keep him at Shortstop. He was destined to be the Red Sox shortstop since he was drafter. That is why Bogarts was not resigned. Mayer could be a superstar. Sogard would be addiquate as a short term plan I feel the same way as you about Masa. He is a good player but does not for. He is the one I really would like to move. I think you crushed this breakdown. I know he has massive prospect fatigue and has been banged up every season but to me he should be the number 1 untouchable prospect in the Red Sox farm system. He’s someone who projects to be a .280 hitter with 25 hr potential and above average to possible GG defense on the infield (where we had been an arson squad collectively defensively for years). Not to mention the fact that he’s been touted as a leader, has strong bond with just about every teammate he comes across and is likable/marketable/bilingual. The one caveat i would have is if the org as a whole think the offspeed issue and the ridiculous L/R splits cannot be corrected, (similar to when moncada came up and struck out something like 12x in 19 ABs and they didn’t buy his hit tool and sold high on him for sale that following offseason) Fans take the opinion of a player is gonna play 160 games at a position and why would you have high caliber depth ready to go, you need to either clear space for him or trade them for a need, when every year we have a crippling amount of injuries (no backup for devers, so we first threw Pablo Reyes out there and cut him, then had Romy Gonzalez and Nick Sogard out there, no backup for Casas so we got dom smith and Garrett cooper, no backup for story and the whole IF defense was shaky for 2 months because of it), we should know by now we need depth at IF, whether story gets reps at 2B/SS or Mayer gets reps at SS/3B to cover for anything that might happen. We shouldn’t go into next season paper thin AGAIN at IF and say what the season could have been if not for an infield injury. We know the Sox like to have versatility so if you can get better defensively by moving story or Mayer around to cover multiple positions in all for it.
@redseatradio

Yeah you’re absolutely right depth is maybe the most important factor to a teams success. If you avoid using that depth than you are in an even better spot

@RickBarnett 2 күн бұрын
The Smart move would be to hold onto Mayer. If you had an above average SS behind him, then yes trade him for a young stud pitcher. However we do not have that right now. If you hold onto him, you can see how he develops at AAA in the first half and when Story goes down again, you have your back up who can take over and you won't likely skip a beat. The other reason is if Story does manage to stay healthy and has one of those years where he finally does what we wanted him to do, (it is an opt out year and sometimes players play at their best to get a better contract) he very well may opt out and you still have your next man up. If Story stays healthy and still performs poorly at bat, you can always have Mayer's start at SS either end of this year or beginning of next and have Story shift to 2nd or the DH spot if someone does take Masa. Not sold on either Grissom or Campbell yet at 2nd, and this year we should get a chance to see how they do there. I think the two players that you could end up trading to make room for some of these prospects are Abreu and Casas. I know you think Casas should not go, but he has gotten hurt each year playing in the Organization, and you can always move Devers to First. I saw Merloni, and Spiers and Caron talking about that scenario, and they all say Devers is much better at picking and grabbing the balls and gets in trouble when throwing which he would not have to do as much and the position is not as harsh on the body. The Combo of those two plus a mid tier prospect could very well get you a very good young arm. Just another scenario to think about.

What the Red Sox need to do is move Devers to DH and slide Mayer in at 3B. This is where he’ll probably end up in his career. The guy you need to trade is Yoshida. He doesn’t have the power to be a DH. As far as the prospects, stay chill. Let them play it out. I’m concentrating now on free agency. Who wants to be a Red Sock? Do the Red Sox want him? Free agents 29-32 already made some money. They want things like fit, ballpark, fans. Maybe their wives have preferences, or schools in the area. I’m not worried about Henry. If he sees a great fit available, he’ll pull the trigger. You are too young to remember when he has. Ballplayers today aren’t even close to the players 20 years ago. They have been inside not getting their vitamin D. They are taught fear from the time they’re born. Less male teachers in schools. Society doesn’t see whats wrong. Young men today are craving the kind of life we all had 30+ years ago. If you were born less than 35-40 years ago, you won’t know what I’m talking about. I’m not sure you are even allowed to ask me to clarify! People today can’t stand differing opinion so they just put the controls in place. Widespread censoring. When I go to Florida I talk to the young players. I generally like the guys raised in the south. Californians? Not so much. Freddy Lynn was raised in California. Big difference from back then to now. How about Carlton Fisk from New Hampshire/Vermont back then to now? When I talk to the young players I ask them where they’re from. Most of the time their answer has me already knowing probably 50% of future sucess. And if you were raised a vegan and had to fight to be out in the sun as a child, you are probably going to be very injury prone. I’m trying to be interesting here. Thinking outside the box, based on experience. I don’t care as much for pro sports anymore. Watching last years Celtics was special. I didn’t think it could be done like they did it. I never saw a TEAM as focused and team oriented as they were. They put WINNING higher than anything. So happy to see Jaylen snub Silver at the banner raising. He deserved the cold shoulder. Jaylen is the anti nba villain now. Might as well keep doing what he does.

Great analysis Corbin! The key to this is Story. If we can get a trade partner to take his salary off our hands without having to add a prospect, I am all for keeping Mayer. If we cannot move Story, you need to explore all options to trade Mayer to improve the team. We need a RH power hitting 1B and or OF. The Jays need a SS, trade Mayer and Casas for Vladdy and Chad Green, with the understanding we can sign Vladdy to an extension. Sign a number one starter, preferably a left hander and all of a sudden we can challenge for a playoff spot. Let's not forget we have Franklin Arias #6 prospect, Yoeilin Cespedes #7 and Mickey Romero #16 in the minors and cannot have all of them play SS at the same time. Its a nice problem to have!

None of this is by his choice I understand, but it doesn't put him on the field either. Trading Story and giving Kambell or Mayer a shot out of camp makes more sense. Especially if you get someone back while eating a portion of his contract. Story when healthy is a game changer yes, but like I said earlier 54 games a season.
