Thanks to @FishStickington for catching an error. I mention a downsampled 4k, I meant to say "line skipped". Downsampled 4k would indeed be welcome but the line skipped mode has a noticeable drop in quality.

Best explanation/presentation of this camera so far. The part with the jazz band subscribed me to the channel. Video is made so beautifully that you just can’t take your eyes off it. Thank you.

Great review. Thank you. I've had my GFX 100II for months now and really enjoy it. It certainly ticks all my boxes. In reality, the body is roughly the same size as a Nikon Z8. Yes, the lenses are undoubtedly bigger and heavier, but once you see the rendering that small inconvenience goes away in a nanosecond. Don't know where along the way we all got afraid to carry anything bigger than an iPhone it seems. I suppose it all started with the original Sony A7 and how it was marketed. Bigger=bad. My GFX 100II, with the superb 32-64 lens, is carryable all day for street shooting. Ask me how I know. I have 6 other lenses, they are all so unbelievably great. The 55mm f1.7 and 110mm f2 are what photography dreams are made of. If anyone is on the fence and worried about size, don't be. Auto focus has improved substantially on the 100II. It's even greater, pure bliss when you are able to take you time composing a nice landscape image with the 100II mounted on my RRS Tripod. I could go on an on, but digress. Good luck and enjoy. I've enjoyed stills so much I haven't tried video!

I've been using the GFX100ii for a couple of weeks now and some of the imposed limitations are 100% NOT hardware, but software decisions that Fujifilm has made that cripple the capabilities and creativity. The primary example of this is the implementation of the anamorphic settings. If you'll look at their chart for which parts of the sensor are being used for 8k anamorphic, you'll see that it's actually larger than the regular cropped 8k section. Great! BUT.. you can only use 2x anamorphic lenses at 8k because they FORCE the desqueeze on your footage even when sending the signal out over HDMI. It shouldn't matter which magnification of anamorphic lens I want to shoot with. All the camera needs to do is record 8k footage from a section of the sensor and let me deal with the desqueeze myself instead of forcing it. There are far less 2x full-frame anamorphic lenses than the other magnifications. This would have been a great way of getting an 8k image out of the camera that leverages more of the sensor.. but they nerfed it by their software decisions. I'll also mention that you only get 3 options for sending a RAW signal over HDMI to an external recorder. Sorry, you can't send the 5.8k cine over HDMI RAW.. you can only send 4k (if you want to leverage the full width of the sensor), or the super 35mm 8k crop.

Do you shoot with DR enhance on or off? On rolling shutter is at 26ms off it is 15ms
@dougsphoto5 ай бұрын
yes but if the video performance doesn't deliver which it doesn't then the GFX100Sii is a better choice and makes more sense and is better value for money, unless you need the adjustable viewfinder

@@TheGlassEyeTV Hi coming to think about it the new Nikon Z6iii can film in 4k 120 and besides from the cost of the lens the body is the same price as the price difference between the 100ii and 100Sii. But it would probably depend on what you film and ad what audience but photography first KZbin video second my current Z6ii will do cover my filming needs...

@@TheGlassEyeTV Hi, yeah don't know why they haven't add 4k 120 to the 100ii as they partly aimed the camera to wildlife photographers and for wildlife video 4k 120 is kind of a requirement, the video specs should of been better at this price as who is going to wait for a 100iii for the camera to be video relevant. Enjoy the Z6iii experiences

Purchased a Komodo. Never used sold it over sticker when they were hot. Stayed with A7sIII & FX30. When KX announced I thought maybe I would pick that up bcuz I still strived for a real “cinema camera” and also to “up my production value” - notice the quotes let’s not go down those rabbit holes but now~ I’m fixated on this gfx 100ii. The video features look amazing and having a best in class camera yes we’re back to being hybrid again but idk- this gfx has jumped over the KX for me in terms of pure image- not lens, rolling shutter etc. Image quality. I saw this camera being cut with an Alexa… thoughts?
@TheGlassEyeTV10 ай бұрын
As much as I love Fujifilm, this is a long way off the Komodo imo. There's a lot more nuance in the RED image and the rolloff isn't comparable (better in the RED).
@angryrabbitproductions169010 ай бұрын
I have both the Komodo and the GFX100 II. Both excellent cameras imo. I love the GFX… specifically working with the awesome EVF with the tilt adapter. It transforms the shooting experience. I think the biggest drawback of the GFX is the rolling shutter. You need to be mindful of what you are shooting to avoid jello. That said, within its limits it’s a fantastic hybrid. I’d love to see Fujifilm make a dedicated video camera. I also own the XH2S and love the image out of it. I won’t speak to the Red… it’s a Red and its outstanding image is well known. The Red is a workhorse of a camera. Easily the best cinema camera I’ve owned. Other than sensor size, I’m not sure the GFX100 II will bring anything video wise that the Red does not already bring. But as a hybrid… that’s another story.

This car video looks better than the XH2S car video you posted. The problem is that the price is almost four times higher. Would you pay that price to change? If that's possible. Or have you already done so? This is what I am currently thinking about. from XH2S user (video only)

Not for video. I think the video quality on the XH2S is superior in almost every respect other than sensor size.

You say the 4k mode is downsampled as if this is a con, I'm confused. Wouldn't footage that is captured at a higher resolution and downsampled to 4k look equal to or sharper than footage natively shot at 4k?
@TheGlassEyeTV9 ай бұрын
Good catch! I misspoke. Line skipped, not downsampled.
