This video brought a big smile to my heart. It is this point exactly that is so easily identified with the long practiced custom of asking when first encountering a Chamoru; what is your family name, what branch, what village are you or your grand parents/great-grand parents from. Being able to trace ones genealogy back to ancestors and the land they came from is so valuable. Although many of us now live all over the globe, this ability and information can and does unite us as Taotao Tano beyond our island shores. Si Yu'us Ma'ase!

Thank you, Si Yu'os ma'ase, for your comment! I absolutely agree with what you pointed out. Your family name, branch, village, and other genealogy are the customary identifiers for CHamoru! Happy the video was able to reach you and hopefully other CHamorus around the globe may benefit from it! Biba taotao tano'!

Hey, admin. Can u please make video about Austronesians in Japan and their legacy in there? In the ancient Japan, some Austronesians sailed to Ryukyu and Kyuushu, they were called by Japanese historians as Kumaso, Azumi, and Hayato. Maybe this is why people from Southern Japan such as Kyuushuans and Okinawans look like Southeast Asians or Pacific Islanders. The Hayatos were known as Austronesian tribes in Kyuushu whose ancestors migrated from Taiwan. They fought against Yamato dynasty but failed and now being assimiliated into Japanese society through intermarriage with the Yamatos

the Polynesian Moriori people of NZs Chattam islands ( Rekohu ) were said to have become extinct in 1933 when the last full blooded Moriori Tommy Soloman died . However today there are over 2,000 Moriori dependents of mixed Moriori , Māori and European decent . While not pure blooded Moriori , these are in fact Moriori people .

Saying European is lumping or categorizing a large group into one group. Europeans have many cultures and beliefs and should not be labeled as one group as if they are all the same.

Although yes Spaniards colonized that area, the only Spaniards there were actually priest, the rest were Mexicans of various racial background from white, mestizo and native americans. The "Spanish" influence in chamorus is actually Mexican and you can see that influence in the cuisine. Spaniards hardly ever mixed with the Asian colonized lands, look at the Philippines, less than 5% of its population has Spanish ancestry and when they have it, its less than 10%. But Spaniards used Mexicans and send them to the Philippines, they influenced the culture in the Philippines. Spain didn't see the Asian nations as how they saw the Americas, that is why they never bothered to mix with them or bring a large Spanish migration into Guam and the Philippines, they used Mexicans and Guam like the Philippines were being managed via New Spain (now Mexico).
@BatAskal
@BatAskal Ай бұрын
"Spain didn't see the Asian nations as how they saw the Americas, that is why they never bothered to mix with them or bring a large Spanish migration into Guam and the Philippines..." First, they have to sail around the world to get to Philippines and Guam - tyranny of distance. We have to consider the Treaty of Tordisillas that divided the globe between Spanish and Portuguese possession. It is the reason why Manila was crucial to Spanish empire's global commercial pursuits - they don't want to bother the Portuguese-controlled part of the world where they have a monopoly on those trading ports along the straits of malacca, Canton (now Macau) and Nagasaki in Japan. Second, if you are from Spain, why bother go that far if you can just sail across Atlantic with less risks involved to settle in new lands?
@donneone
@donneone 23 күн бұрын
@@carlosm.3426 They maybe a small percentage but Spanish people other than priests from Spain did settle, start business and intermarry with Philippine locals. There is a well known area that has completely Spanish architecture vastly different than anything Philippine at the time. They have their own different culture and language.

They don’t deserve your time and response because they are ignorant. What filipinos and chamorros have in common is how colonization has influenced a good portion of our cultures and tradtions, with that being said nobody has a right to say what you are and what you are not except for you. I’ve seen people say chamorros and micros are not real islanders or that hawaii is not even part of the polynesian family, they also wont recognize the fact that us filipinos are distant cousins, these people are just gatekeepers who are very ignorant of where our ancestors came from and the amazing things they have achieved.

Western concept of race isn’t complete flawed. There is some truth to some things when it comes to race. It is true that certain races or ethncities are more likely to commit crimes. If you look at the most diverse countries they tend to have the highest crime rates but if you look at the least racially diverse countries they tend to have the lowest crime rates such as nations like Poland, Hungary, Switzerland and Iceland for example. I have noticed that the whitest countries tend to be the most safest and most prosperous
