Both me and my wife own r7s, they are perfect for us as we photograph wildlife and birds. The autofocus is awesome, and it is a hardy camera. 150mm of rain and it never missed. Now just need to save for RF lenses, but in the meantime all our old lenses, even Tamron and Sigma rock in this system. Great vid as usual 🙂

I nearly bought the R10 but I decided to save up a little longer and get the R7. For only a (relatively) small amount of extra cash you're getting a more complete camera that the extra features just make it feel more professional for me (e.g. IBIS, dual card slots, bigger battery).

R10 user with a 20yo 70-200 F4 for fast action outdoors sports. Can't complain. But you should be carefull when to use ES. Sensor readout speed isn't the best, so, on those really fast bike descent photos, it can somehow spaghetti your photo motive. But I still get away with murder, about 90% of my photos are taken with ES. On the long run, it should make your camera last longer.

I personally dont like the "beginner/Professional" labels. I have been shooting with a 7Dmii for 6 years and am definitely not a beginner. I do not work professionally as a photographer as its my hobby only. I think something needs to be said as to the cost of a camera and what one can afford as a hobbyst vs the necessities of the professional. I bought the R10 for my wildlife photography because simply I could not afford anything more and it is still an upgrade from the DSLR's. I think as a hobbyst you definitely don't need to pay an extra $1000 more (in Australia) for an extra card slot and bigger battery. What it came down to for me, was that the cameras below the R10 in price were significantly worse, but the cameras for an extra $1k (R7) were not delivering that much more. Perhaps in the northern hemisphere there is not much price difference between the R10 and the R7??
@VanessaJoy3 ай бұрын
I don’t like the labels either personally. A camera is what you make of it but the proline of things (R6 and up) definitely have some perks that pros need

I think it's just a ghost from the past to think along the old lines of "professional" and "not professional" with regards to modern cameras. Especially since most "non professionals" have moved to phones long ago, and the "enthusiast" segment has always craved the old "semiprofessional" line (same as the professionals often chose, because it was easier on the wrists and bank). Your example of Canon is good. Both of these are fully usable as professional tools, as long as you remember to add good glass. Similarly, in Nikon-land we have the z5, z6, z7, z9 lines in the full frame, and z30, z50, zfc in crop. z5 is the only clear "enthusiast" grade. Both z6 and z7 are the typical "workman's tools" (filling the old D7xx and D8xx lines), and the Z9 is the "flagship" model. z30 is a camera stripped of the viewfinder for only a display, making it as compact as possible. I'd say this is the only pure "consumer" grade in the lineup (while still being fully usable for the professional vlogger making more money than us). The z50 and the zfc are the oddballs, replacing the entire crop camera lineup of enthusiast D cameras, including the D500. But only the Zfc has any attempts at weather sealing, making it the only camera really useful outdoors on anything but sunny days. Professional or Amateur camera? Look at the glass. I've done jobs with both Z7ii and Zfc (a smaller camera is less scary for a kid, because the kid can still see the human behind it). I think attaching a professional or not label to the camera houses we're having today makes no sense. They are tools. We had better be asking ourselves "is this the right tool for the job infront of me?", and if the answer is no, "in that case, which tool should I use?". My current toolchest solves the following: High resolution and dynamic range for when I have good light available or can use flash (Z7ii), Lower resolution but low noise on high iso for events and other places barely lit where I can't bring flash (Alas, still on mirrored, D750). Small, light body, I can bring with me everywhere that doesn't scare toddlers (Zfc). Of course, I'd want a Z9 and a chest full of exotics. But they wouldn't increase my income over what I already have.

I started shooting with film. Double card slots make me laugh. If you can't sleep without duo card slots are you really a pro? Two cards do not make for a pro. Knowing what you are doing makes the pro. I am not saying backup is not good just that it does not mean professional. Plus duo slots allows one for video and one for photo and there goes backup out the window.
@VanessaJoy Жыл бұрын
That’s like saying you started on a horse and buggy and if I professional driver can’t live without gasoline then are they really a pro… with new tech comes raising the bar in the professional standards and to me dial cards slots is now a professional standard. Also, starting shooting on film does not give you a badge of honor. I started on film as well, but that is absolutely irrelevant to this conversation.
@johnmiller6108 Жыл бұрын
I am sorry. I thought you new about photography. You see we had one iso and one film speed for a given roll of film. We also captured great images. Not a badge of honor just not spray and pray. Your saying you need Two card slots to have pro equipment. I said a pro can shoot on any good camera system even with one card slot and get and deliver pro results. Get real all cameras have compromises the least of them being two card slots. If you do not know what you are doing 3 card slots will not help. If you do one will work fine. And I believe I said two are nice to have so grow up and play with the big boys.
