Are these REAL Mercedes W124 wheels?

Not all wheels that look like Mercedes wheels were made by Mercedes or are approved OEM versions. You need to look for a Mercedes Star and part number to be either of those things. My wheels are E25 Offset so sit quite wide, but where did they come from? A W124 500E or AMG? Maybe a W126 or W140? Lets have a look.

W126 300SE came standard with a 7Jx15 ET25…only reason I know this is I was going to buy a set off Marketplace and they looked the same as the 8 hole original wheels for my 1993 320CE which run OEM 7Jx15 ET45. I went through a phase where I wanted the OEM look but I’m over that and I’m still running a set of 8.5x18 ET35 Simmons wheels made for a R129 SL500. I was having clearance problems but I resolved that by running narrower 225/40 tyres and rolling the guards. I also found out the W124 E36 AMG ran up to 8Jx18 ET35 with a simple guard modification so what I’m doing is nothing new.

I've thought about the AMG front guard flare kit for the W124. It's just a couple spacers along the bottom mating surface that pushes the guard and flare out about 1.5cm or so I think. Thanks for the information re the W126.

I made my own flare kit out of a 10 mm plastic cutting board and a one inch hole saw and longer 10 mm bolts…used 2 spacers at the back edge and one spacer at the front.

Could be a 92 sportline rim Mine 92 300D came with a 6 1/2 J 195/65/15

It looks like the Remotec brand wheels were an aftermarket non OEM product. Even though they meet German design quality control specs etc, this particular wheel was not on any factory Mercedes. The same spec wheels were on the W126 and maybe the W124 AMG but those would have been OEM Mercedes part number and builds. I assume these were produced because owners at the time liked the look and wanted an option to put on their car or it may have been a cheaper option that buying a new rim from Mercedes if one was damaged.

Your 1992 300D came standard with 6.5Jx15 ET49. These wheels are 7Jx15 ET25…only car I can find with those specifications are a W126 300SE. Most of the W124 are no longer running 15 inch OEM wheels…most went to wider 16 and 17 inch monoblocks and when they sell the car sell the monoblocks separately and refit the stock wheels.

Only Merc this woul fit is inded w126 and also r107sl. W124 like yours should be 6,5 inch wide and offset 38 or 39 mm. Look on int ernet for reifengrossen w124 for more options like sportline 7 inch wide. Your 205/65 is also for w126 or r107 and 65 is not homologated on 7 inch, sg Hould then be 205/60

Correct but it turns out they are not original Mercedes wheels. They are made by Remotec in Germany who apparently made a lot of wheels for Mercedes cars and BMW's etc to the same spec. They just don't have the Mercedes part numbers on them and are technically an after market item.

The numbers you’re looking at are date stamps. ‘87 car, April ‘92 wheels. Originally your car would have had the 6.5J x 16H2 SA 640 option 15 hole rims. Your car, like my 300CE coupe is a ‘Series 1’ car. My car has the 8 hole rim in the same 6.5J x 16H2 SA652 option which were fitted on the 124 range from late 1990 for the 1991 season. The wheels you have may correspond to the ‘Sportline’ package given they’re 7J size. Greetings from Bass Coast, Victoria.
