Are these the best Les Pauls Gibson has ever made?? Let us know what YOU think!
The First-Ever Murphy Lab Brazilian Rosewood Limited Run Les Paul Standard Models at CME! The Ultimate vision of Tom Murphy, the perfect version of a 59' Les Paul. Tom Murphy, the namesake of the Murphy Lab, was central in the creation of the Gibson Custom Shop and personally developed the process of aging guitars, refining his own set of tools and techniques to age guitars with more accuracy and attention to detail than had ever been done before at Gibson.
Now, this first-ever Murphy Lab-aged Brazilian Rosewood run of 1959 Reissue Les Paul Standards features super lightweight mahogany bodies, AAAA-figured maple tops that were cherry-picked and set aside specifically for this release, and (of course) Brazilian Rosewood fingerboards. The Murphy Lab aging is distinct from other Murphy Lab offerings and completely exclusive to this very special run, with a heavy treatment and notable touches, like custom-aged plated and plastic parts. Since Tom’s well-earned legacy as a Master Luthier and pioneer at Gibson Custom is a testament to his dedication to the art of guitar making, every limited edition Murphy Lab-aged Brazilian Rosewood 1959 Les Paul Standard reissue model includes a leather-wrapped COA book, an insert mentioning the limited quantities, and an aged Lifton hardshell case.
Only 50 guitars will be made for each of the five colors available from CME as part of this very special run, so order yours from CME today before all have been spoken for!

I really hope the whole "burst" thing sort of falls by the wayside in the near future. Tonight, out of curiosity, I just listened to little excerpts from a bunch of the classic recordings that we all know featured bursts. Mike Bloomfield on the Super Sessions record, The Beano album, the first couple of ZZ Top records, some Free songs, some Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac, etc. They all sounded so different. There is no "burst" sound, and most of the great rock records we all adore were recorded with guitars that WERE NOT sunburst Les Pauls. We're all victims of guitar influencers, and Gibson's brilliant marketing strategies.

thats such a good way to put it. Thats so true, the fact they all sounded SO different, two different humbucker gutiars probably will sound just as different as two les pauls

It’s about the look, the burst thing it’s about the sound but also the look, it’s one of the best looking guitars ever made if not the best, so there’s a lot of value behind the story of the instrument. Like it or not these are facts.
@Matthewtaylorn
@Matthewtaylorn 10 ай бұрын
@@SqualoDeiCelestini I have to agree to an extent, but I actually think that can do a disservice to the player’s expression. Like I said, guitar influencers and Gibson’s marketing department have convinced us to associate “the look” with a particular sound and style, and that the burst is “the most magical and mystical electric guitar in existence,” no less. The reality is that the Les Paul is so much more versatile than the way it’s currently perceived by lots of players, and that’s what it should be valued for. And if we’re talking about looks, call me crazy, but I’d take a Heritage Custom Core H-150 over one of these any day. I’m one of the weirdos who prefers their pickguard and headstock shapes. Plus, the headstock inlay on the custom core models is a perfect cherry on top aesthetically. It simply looks like it’s better suited for a wider variety of musical styles.

Les Pauls are damn fine looking instruments, and there's no denying that. But I prefer the feel and sound of Fender style guitars. Guitarists today have a huge choice of instruments to choose from. From bespoke to mass produced factory clones. The quality is way higher than when I was a lad. There's no intrinsic right and wrong in any of them. My favourites were made in Japan and Mexico. For sure, USA made instruments are amazing, if you can afford them, but personal expression comes from our brain and fingers, and a rich dentist playing an heirloom vintage Les Paul is never going to sound like Mark Knopfler or Jimmy Page. Though Nathaniel Murphy - who is neither a dentist, nor (I'm guessing) very wealthy - does sound remarkably like many classic Les Paul players.@@Matthewtaylorn

Not a hater but damn these sound bright. Had '53 and '54 GTs, a '60 Standard and gigged with the Spinal Tap '59 many times. Obviously, P-90s and HBs are different animals, but tho they all screamed I found them all to have a very warm sound. Warm, full, with just enough edge and bite. More if required. In fact, the '60 had the coolest creme pups ever - that were terribly weak. I took it to the Gibson factory (this is early 70s and I lived in Kazoo at the time) and they replaced them with another set, only charged me for the labor. "Experts" have maintained that the switch wasn't possible due to creme pups being extinct. Well, if you ever went inside the Gibson factory back then it looked like Joe's garage. They had all kinds of stuff lying around, in various drawers. Sorry to prattle. These sure are beautiful, tho, I'll give them that.

This is the result of “market research.” Lots of players just heard some guys talk about how PAFs were supposed to sound like “a tele on steroids” implying that they should be very bright, sparkly and articulate. Those are not bad qualities for pickups by any means, but we’ve gone to the extreme here. It’s a bummer. I don’t really recognize these sounds from many great songs and albums, to be honest

99% of the sound is good pickups, good electronics & pots, and a great amp turned up. I have a greco MIJ les paul with Montys pickups that is better than any Gibson i have owned. 5k+ for a new guitar that wont go up in value is insane.

Agree. Have had vintage guitars up the wazoo over the years. The best sounding hollowbody was/is my Ibanez AS200 with stock pups. Best solid body, a cheap ESP tele with SD pups. The clincher is a stock '64 Deluxe Reverb. Works for me. Sound is always in the ear of the beholder, of course.

Custom Shop 👍👍💥⚡️🔥 paying Murphy several thousand dollars to scuff up and corrode a brand new’59 burst…. No thank you. I have never enjoyed someone else scuffing up and baptizing my gear . Car , guitar, skateboard, surfboard…. Motorcycle , doesn’t matter. If there’s any road rash etc. I want it to be from me. And I’m certainly not into paying big bucks to have some faux road rash.

The tones and textures created by these revered artists can not be replicated by anyone else. The idea is to embark on Your own journey with the instrument of Your choice. The whole point of these overpriced Les Pauls (and priced to SUCH an extreme) is to increase the relative and perceived value of all other Les Pauls. Is some LPs can cost 20k brand new it makes me feel a lot better buying one for 2.5k. They just keep shoving these high priced models down every marketing channel they can to saturate our minds with it. They know full well that they'll sell all of these as well, but it's not just about that. They're playing chess..
