Try living in Skegness for 6 months. 2 or 3 trains cancelled in a day is frequent. That's not good considering we have 1 train an hour. I'm sure plenty of other routes may be running fine with the EMR website claiming only 3% are cancelled but that figure is certainly a good deal higher on our service.

In my opinions the biggest mistakes are - HST / 180 withdrawal when nothing to replace them, leads to overcrowding on Intercity route often 5 car sets - EMR connect only running with 8 carriages at peak times, all platforms can take 12 carriage trains. Maybe costs but the 360/2’s should have also come over from TFL to aid with this capacity increase - Delayed refurbishment of connect & regional fleet
@bedfordshireeastmidlandstrains2 ай бұрын
Yeah, that was rubbish, taking away 14 trains, then replacing them with 5 trains, to then replace with nothing.

Where we live in Lincolnshire if we need to head towards Grimsby/Cleethorpes we have two options EMR or TPE, despite their flaws EMR win that one hands down as generally speaking they’re ok… I’ve made my disdain for TPE perfectly clear on the video you posted of their failed franchise and I still stand by that 😄

I recently travelled on them when I was on holiday along the Barton line; morning saw them on time, but afternoons were often late. That being said, the train crews were of a great help and were also quite entertaining.

I always use EMR to travel to Yorkshire. It is always a very comfortable ride. The turnround time at Sheffield is very short and EMR do not empty the toilets unlike Northern at Leeds. There was no trolley on my train yesterday evening. I will continue to use EMR because they do off peak returns and the trains are nicer than Azumas.

IMO EMR got rid of their 156s way too early. They definitely should have waited until all the turbos were with EMR. Great video.

It’s probably down to contractual reasons that Northern needed the 156s by a certain date.

I travel on EMR many times a week, they are exceptionally poor. The rolling stock is decrepit, stinky carriages, water ingress in some windows which meant my view from my packed train for 2 hours was a blurry mess. Some doors don’t open and yet I am forced to pay a substantial fare. I could go on for ages, but shan’t. In my view they should have the franchise withdrawn.

I've travelled a lot on the Liverpool to Sheffield/Nottingham service and it's always been fine. It is a bit odd whilst an East Midlands franchise links Liverpool to Norwich and I know there was talk of them splitting it between TPE and another TOC, but it never happened.

As always a good video. One thing I was wondering will you do a video on coal trains as the last coal train to Ratcliffe on Soar happened recently?

@Vanmanyo i think the other reason why EMR was bought by the Transport UK group is that in the year that happened the owner of Abellio NS (Dutch Railways) announced to sell their part of Abellio UK because NS wanted to focus more on it's activities in The Netherlands where they run all the mainline services and some sprinter(the service) services for example from Zutphen to Wijchen
@Vanmanyo2 ай бұрын
Yeah NS did want to sell! I have been on NS quite a bit so I know a bit about them. I think abellio were pretty good.

It's a difficult one, I wouldn't necessarily say they're a success but they're also not a failure. Rather they're an operator which had some good ideas but has been let down by the DfT not allowing them to spend money on refurbishments of trains before now and continuously umming and errring about the Liverpool to Norwich route leaving it operating with insufficient trains. They've also been hugely impacted by COVID with the delivery of new and displaced trains significantly delayed. For me personally I find them pretty expensive but they have the potential to be an excellent operator and they have quite possibly my favourite livery in the UK right now.
@JackGourdon-je4ze2 ай бұрын
i think EMT was the best MM operator as they had a diverse fleet of loco hauled stock (Intercity 125 sets), Class 222 meridians, class 153, class 156, class 158 the operations were good and i think EMT was the best
@BenRattigan2 ай бұрын
ROSCOs should have to fully fund all refurbishments, maintenance and repairs. This is normal practice when leasing anything, owner responsibility.
@shodan29582 ай бұрын
I wonder what happens to the refurbishment with a change in operator? Does the existing operator just have to essentially take the hit atter committing to it?

I think emr should invest in more Bi mode trains due to most of their routes are electrified and secondly and a lot of fuel is being consumed. I personally think the upcoming 810 is not enough

From someone who lives in Norwich, for me they are the total opposite of success. Insanely overcrowded due to Liverpool- Norwich trains always being formed of only 2 coaches, unreliable, and overpriced.

Having traveled a couple of times on EMR, their trains are very dirty, scruffy and poorly maintained. I hate to say but worse than GC. I’m not sure Transport UK Ltd like Arriva is fit and proper company to be operating any public transport.
