Sieko Turtle is not about if you fancy it or not as a fashion watch. The Turtle is one of the worlds most rugged watches capable of extremes and a lifetime of abuse….and it will keep time reliably. I have used mine for twenty years of US Army Special Operations, with deployments globally. Parachuting, Scuba Diving and combat operations. It can be rebuilt by Sieko if it begins exhibiting sluggish operation. After over 40 years of non stop Gov Service….any deployment Iam on…..I put my Rolex in my safe and I wear my Turtle……because I can rely on it with my life……no matter what comes.

Today, the Seiko Turtle is in a very competetive market, and no longer the best for the buck. But if you like vintage divers, without the maintenance, the Turtle is a legit and very cool option IMO.

It’s a very functional watch. I’ve had mine 37 years. Make sure you keep up with the watch band’s condition and change out the pins. A NATO strap is a really good idea.

Willard was wearing a 6105. You can pick up a knockoff on ebay for $100. Or a new reissue for a lot more. I'm currently wearing the model before the 6105. The 62MAS. Much easier to wear.

Had a Seiko Dive Watch long ago. It was digital and analog. It lasted me about 18 years before breaking down. Changed the battery only twice and the band once in that time. I'm not so into watches but that Seiko was a really good one for me. It took quite a bit of abuse as well.

Seiko is the greatest watch company that ever existed, period. More history, heritage and class than Rolex, Patek and AP combined. At the core of Seiko's greatness is their dive watches. Buy one, it'll last you a lifetime.

@@1968jpy And that Invicta has the exact same movement as the Turtle, it's just their inhouse finishing versus wholesale finishing. So the Invicta functionally is still a Seiko at heart. That is a cool thing about seiko tho, if you don't really like their looks you can get the same functionality in a bunch of other manufacturers.

@Steel Steez 🎃 I'll admit, it was a tad dramatic. I get excited. Their history goes back a long way though. I own a lot of watches, from cheap to luxury, and Seiko by far is my favorite brand. Admittedly, their prices/business decisions/direction have changed over the years. Still, for the money, they're one of the best watches you can buy and have been for a long time.

The Seiko turtle SRP777 you are reviewing is NOT part of the Seiko 5 lineup. The turtle is part of the Prospex line of watches. Side note: you mentioned you colored the second hand on one of your watches. As soon as you open the case back on these watches they can no longer be considered ISO Certified if they were originally. They have to go through the pressure testing again.

Would or should you look at the Turtle through the eyes of the history? I mean knowing it's from the 60's and that it was popular with USGI's in Vietnam etc. Look at it the same way you'd look at an old M-14 or F4 Phantom! The fact it's a mainstay with a long history may be why so many are fond of it. I personally love this Seiko style of hands and the fact it's not an exhibition caseback shouldn't be a downside. I mean most higher end dive watches aren't as I'd imagine the glass meeting the screwdown back is just another seal that could leak (in theory at least compared to that extra seal not needing to be there at all) it's not perfect (that keeper is a joke, the bezel action could be better) so I'm not saying your wrong on the assessment just maybe the fact the seconds hand isn't color tipped or the chapter ring is too big is just part of the old school charm! I do love that Orient though other than the strange way they integrated the date window/cut marker. For the price though it's probably the better option if the history of the Turtle isn't your thing.

Patreon dude here I just caught the vid here for some reason. I like Seiko and yeah you can probably get a better watch for the money probably but you do get a reliable watch from a company with alot of history. Thier customer service isn't to bad either. I had a Seiko baby alpinist that was messed up right out of the box. They fixed it and had it back in a month. Nobody beats their lume either. I have watches that cost 15-20 times what a Seiko turtle cost and Seikos lume dominates them. Their accuracy is hit or miss. I've have a SKX, multiple versions of the Alpinist, a mini turtle, a king turtle, and a Sarb033 some are right on the money and some are like +or- 20 seconds a day.

Not sure why you don’t love them Nut’n, other than maybe being a contrarian. LOL. Perhaps they are a bit pricey and stingy when it comes to using sapphire crystals? I myself don’t love the Turtle case style, but I appreciate Seiko watches. I feel that the metal edges make the hands easier to see, and dislike your hands mods, but hey, to each his own. I’ve bought both Seiko and Orient from Marc at Long Island Watch and have always been happy with his service and prices. Avoid Joma Shop, terrible customer service and no warranty as they are not authorized. Appreciate the watch review as always Nut’N.

I believe the bezels on the turtles are designed to excel in wet conditions. Also put a Hirsch Pure strap in black on this and the strap will match the dial like you wouldn't believe! You won't be disappointed!

Are you really comparing Seiko with that monstrosity of Invicta? I understand that people have doifferent taste in watches but....INVICTA? The only Invicta that is actually worth it is the Pro Diver, the Rolex Sub homage and that's it. Seiko Turtle and Seiko SKX are arguably one of the best watches out there, they have the history and unique design. My SKX (although modded with NH36 movement and SRPD55 dial) went through some serious shit and is a monster of a watch.

My srpe93 is the most legible watch I have. The shiney metal on the hands really helps reflect light in low light situations when the lume can't do it's thing just yet. I haven't had it for a year yet but I've worn it everyday so far and have set out to try and destroy it. I will say Orient is amazing for the money. I gave my brother my Blue Ray II and I miss it a lot. I get envious everytime I see him wearing it. Thanks for the great underwater footage and your opinion.

@6:20 Guess he doesn't understand why the "lollipop" is on the other end. The only thing the ISO requirement states is that it must be immediately visible that the watch is still running and has not stopped. Well, obviously, that's the second hand because the other hands are way to slow to quickly verify it's running. It doesn't matter where they put the lume pip and anyone that can't transpose 30secs to the other end of the second hand shouldn't even be messing around with firearms in the first place. LOL

The screw that holds the winding rotor backed out, which let the rotor hit/stick on the inside of the case back. All that's needed is to unscrew the case back, remove and clean that screw and reinstall it with a touch of blue Locktite. Seiko autos are known for this.

Great video. I had the invicta grand drive, the lume is so bad after charging it under a light for one minute. My grand invicta started letting in water after a week of getting it. There is no way i would use an invicta for diving. The invicta and seiko 5 are not official dive watches, or for that matter any of the steeldive or other Chinese makes which i have in my collection. The seiko Padi or any other watch which is passed my Padi are certified dive watches.

Look at Zelos watches from Singapore. Great divers, great lume, vrs sizes, excellent QC. Only issue is some models sell out fast as the are limited runs. Luv my Zelos Hammerhead 3 in bronze with mother of pearl dial.

I've got four of these. Two are the PADI model. If you can pick one up used for cheap, it's well worth it as a beach and beater watch. I prefer the Citizen NY0040-09E for the best beater diver. I looks much cooler and wears easier.
