Personally, as a programmer I prefer dual Full HD monitors. I can easily maximize the website that I am working on at one of the screens. Since 1080p 24-inch monitors are still the standard, this gives me the guarantee that's probably the format the user will experience the website. Another point for me is that my hardware only supports full HD gaming. Thus, going for ultrawide at 2k or 4k will make it impossible to play games :-/.

Been having this question for a looooooong time. Finally decided to get 2 after this video. Ultrawide is good for fov, but I got that covered with in-game settings. Thank you so much for the advice! Dual is SUPER good for anything like gaming and streaming/recording, or gaming and watching videos/streams, or having 2 tasks. I have actually tried Ultrawide myself, and it comes down to what are your configurations for each task. For example: set recording/streaming software to games specifically, or just having tabs open all at once. Tab mode is better for games while multi-tasking. I hope whoever reads this comment gets what they need!

Personally multi-tasking between two monitors is the only option that makes sense due to the games I play. For example, I play Elite Dangerous which means I almost always need external tools open on my second screen while playing. Those tools range from discord, to current in game market data, to a neutron star router. With an ultra wide I would constantly find myself alt-tabbing to find the information I need rather than being able to glance to my left to just read the information.
@FiSHY4D4 жыл бұрын
You dont need to full screen your games on an ultrawide, set it to a max 16:9 ratio and adjust your extra apps to fill in the empty space on each side of your game window. It's like having 2 thin vertical monitors on each side. Or get a 30 to 34" ultrawide and another cheapish monitor and go vertical, slap your other apps on that. Elite dangerous would thrive on an ultrawide tho, so the second option would be your best choice.

Nice video for basic dual monitor setup guide!!!! I have a dual PC setup so 2x monitors required anyway. Gaming rig is 21:9, streaming is 16:9. They are connected via ethernet to my router so they see each other with virtually zero network latency (not wireless), and I use NDI sources to stream. It's a bit overkill but the benefits are insane. The drawback if you could consider this a drawback is that setting up the stream requires a lot more preliminary effort, and of course you're not sharing desktops between PCs so there's no window dragging between both monitors. Built the gaming rig for content creation as well since I'll be starting that soon.

While dual displays are a great choice for development work in terms of productivity, I think the long-term ergonomic issues cannot be overstated. As you pointed out, a dual-screen setup almost always puts the border--the useless part--right in the middle, and your body should really be squared to the middle of your work station, with your knees, hips, shoulders, and head all pointing to the same plane. It would be great to see some dual-screen hardware that can allow the user to easily "strafe" their displays for different scenarios, so at times when one display is going to take the lion's share of the focus, you can put it dead center. . I think headsets are going to be a big dead, but not for several years. To really replace a traditional display for multi-hour use in a collaborative workspace, a lot developments have to be made. They need to become waaaayyyyyyy lighter, with higher resolution, super-tight motion tracking, a see-through mode with a camera (or more likely multiple cameras) and a sort of "virtual see-through" mode so your hands can still find the keyboard/mouse/stylus/what-have-you. . I accidentally made this comment much longer than I intended to. By the time I write a few more comments this long, the headset solution will be ready to replace traditional displays.

0:00 Depends on what you are planning to do. Most people, just want to have fun gaming, so for most, the answer IS an easy no. But the question isn't isolated to only 1 group of people. Other people might have reasons to have a second monitor based on the utility they need, such as watching performance gauges, video editing, internet research, ect. 1 monitor for the game, 1 monitor for the extended utilities. 2 side by side monitors usually doesn't work for most games in most cases. The bare down the middle would normally cause problems for most people. Though there are edge cases. For most people, the 3 monitor side to dside, or some form of ultrawide setups (normally without a center bar blocking the view) are the preferred way to go, for extending the view of your gaming experience.

My college provided laptop is a 2 in 1. I never used the touch screen until we started doing online school. I have a second monitor I watch lectures on and take notes on the touch screen with a stylus.

As a gamer, I use my main monitor (1920x1080, 240hz) for gaming and my secondary monitor (Ultrawide, 75hz) for other stuff. Funny enough I spent more on the second monitor than the main monitor lol

I have 2 24 inch monitors. I have one directly in front of me , and the second one is directly beside it to the right . I use the one in front of me for editing photos , and I’ll use the other one for watching photoshop tutorials. I wouldn’t want it any other way . I may build a dedicated gaming machine at the other corner of the room with an ultra wide oled monitor for gaming. Kind of the best of both worlds

I am so on the fence about this. I've been rocking dual 24" for at least 10 years now and I always thought I couldn't go without it. The only reason I'm not buying a new PC currently is because I still haven't made up my mind about Dual vs Ultrawide. I have watched this video 4 times already as well... I always thought I can't go without dual monitors, but if I'm honest, more often than not is it just distracting me. I'm a webdeveloper and the dual is nice, but on a 24 inch you don't have your code editor and a browser on one screen so where as on an ultrawide monitor you could easily stack three windows next to eachother Design, Code, Browser so that might even work better. Then when I"m gaming I like watching stuff on the side, but that's only distracting, so when I can be distracted I can run a game like WoW in windowed mode16:9 and have a video next to it but the ultrawide would definitely help me focus on the other games a lot more. AARGH I need someone to just decide for me

SHORT AND EASY ANSWER: YES TWO MONITORS ARE DEFINATELLY WORTH IT!
@paulvorderegger15223 жыл бұрын
What about a (super) ultrawide though? If you only do one thing you have extra space and if you need 3 Windows side by side then two monitors are kind of bad for that....

I used to have an ultrawide, it was awesome for productivity, but in some games it didn’t work so i just ended up with a tiny part of the screen for the gaming. Just recently switched to a 27 inch 4k monitor for more story driven games with good graphics and a 144hz screen for shooters etcetera. It doesn’t look as clean as one ultrawide, but it atleast just as good for productivity whilst being usefull for multiple purposes

I have come from a a world of console gaming and laptops, however this last year I have adjusted my setup more and more so its now a separate keyboard and mouse running with a large 4k monitor and my laptop monitor next to it on a stand used for secondary things I am doing such as email or just moving documents and tabs around. Its a little bit between the two primary options I presented here - one screen is my focus and the other just.. a handy extra where a lot of peoples desktop machines might be.

Using dual monitors - does it give you a view of the perimeters at one time , something you would not be able to see in a limited screen, or does it simply stretch the display and lay it out to two screens?
