There are secondhand bargains to be had by tourists but this is mainly due to exchange rates. There can be hardware issues such as keyboards not being in your language and the need to buy plug adapters etc. Sometimes devices are not unlocked or the devices have been downgraded with lower quality components. Those who know what’s what might get a bargain but others may be dissatisfied. If you live in the US or Europe for example it is best to buy online from reputable dealers refurbishing ex corporate devices. Beware there is a booming trade in worn out Macs with cheap SSDs and low quality battery replacements around. They will work fine for a couple of months and then break down.

Used iphones are overly priced in Japan. Even tho the price is similar when new, prices go up when compared to used iphones. There is a terrible mark up for used iphones. Places like geo will mark up phones just for the color also. If possible never buy used iphones in Japan.

Almost all Japanese iPhones have shutter noise which you can't turn off, which can be undesired for tourists.

Reason its cheaper because they replace the sapphire lenses out and thinner glass on the back and front of the phone and didn't change the battery out so it has less lifespan.

Many of these stores Will take a card and bring your passport to prove you are a foreigner (if you are) and it's tax rebateable for many as well!

it is much cheaper in greenhills PH plus they offering numerous freebies when you purchased it. you can haggle with some store to ssve a bit of money. i understand rental shop in japan is expensive but sellers is robbing the consumers with shocking prices.
