My husband and I travelled far and wide too and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately I had a stroke and the long journeys are no longer possible. Am I glad that we did it when I was fit. Enjoy yourselves...this is the right decisiion.

We did this. I'm retired Navy and sold our house in 2009 and was full time RV. We lived in a few different large 5th wheel trailers and it was great at the time. But live can throw you a curve ball. My wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and we lived with her parents for almost a year while she went through chemo and treatment and the RV was in storage. We made the decision that RV life was not in our life anymore and sold the RV. The really ironic thing is that the house we sold in 2009 was on the market for sale and we bought it again in late 2019 and living in it today. Wife is doing great, a paramedic and just made Captain with Virginia Beach EMS Services.

My husband and I are at that stage in our lives too where we are empty nesters. But we can’t just travel full time because we are still working and just don’t have that freedom. What I liked is that you did end up buying another house! A new and even better house! You just never know what’s gonna happen with your kids and a van would get rather small after awhile ( just my opinion). Sounds like you made the best decision and you are still gonna travel so win win!!

I’m in the same situation. No more children to raise. I’m recently retired but my husband isn’t. 😢 Being able to live this lifestyle and being able do what this lovely couple are doing is difficult and not possible for most. I’m sure they’re grateful for that as well.

Brave guys, and actually was quite relieved when you decided to retain a home base. In the end the unintended decluttering was probably a really good move. Hope that you really enjoy the UK. If you are there for a week then I guess you will not get out of LONDON much but if you enjoy LONDON maybe try to go back to check out some more of the country. Windsor, Bath, Stonehenge, Cotswolds, North Wales, Cornwall, York, Oxford , Cambridge, Lake District, Norwich and the Norfolk broads, Edinburgh, Inverness and the Scottish Highlands, Isle of Sky and that’s just scratching the surface.

Nomad on the road is the dream life for many. But you have to have a home base. Those government people who maintain the public roads are nicer if you have an up-to-date license tag on your moveable home. Tax people and credit card people want a "permanent" address even if you are digital for everything else you do. Also, be aware HOA people usually do not allow a slab with hook-ups unless it is inside a building with walls, and high shrubs blocking the view from the street don't count as "out of sight." Medical insurance wants an address so they know when to charge you for being out of network. I've heard that when you become a nomad, friends and relatives enforce the 3-day rule. They don't panic if you have a "permanent" place to go to after a more than 3-day visit. Empty nesters convert one bedroom into an office/hobby room and the other bedrooms become storage bins to pile things because the attic, cellar, garage, and outdoor tool shed are overflowing. Clean it out and downsize or refurbish and open a B&B (and listen to clients talk about their travels).

We sold our house in May that we had lived in for almost 20 years! But we moved into a rental twin home. I don't think I could ever live in a van full time, but I might be okay traveling full time. I still have 1 kiddo at home (the other two are in law school and college), so I can't do that quite yet!

I live about 4.5 hours from Banff. The Canadian Rocky Mountains are amazing. Are you going to do some touring when you are off the Mountaineer? The highway to Jasper through Lake Louise, past the Columbia Icefields and the Athabasca Glacier is worth extending your Vacation. Maligne Lake and the Jasper Park Lodge are often overlooked for the more touristy Banff/Lake Louise. Then journey to Edmonton with it's gorgeous River Valley park system amongst other gems. See some of the Western Canadian Prairie and travel South via the Drumheller badlands and it's World class museum. Don't miss the town of Wayne and the Last Chance Saloon enroute to Calgary. That is just a taste of what the Alberta side of the Great Divide has to offer.

You 2 made me cry 😢 😭. Sorry I am emotional wreck. I have never moved out of the area that I grew up in and not more than 2 miles from my childhood home. We still have 2 months before construction is done and moving 30 miles south. I am sad but can't wait wait to venture out to new areas of where we will be living and explore. Congratulations on the new house and all of your up and coming travels! I can't wait till May of next year when we are really free to travel whenever we want. No more schedules, alarm clocks, meetings, retired life here we come.

You guys will LOVE the Rocky Mountaineer train! Especially in Gold Leaf. Be sure to take pictures from the observation deck! Be sure to watch for wildlife. If you stay at the Fairmont in Banff, be careful with the bathtub in your bathroom. It's like A bathtub you'd get in Europe.

I am so glad you decided to have a home base. It's important for you guys to have a place to get together with your kids when you aren't traveling.
