❤look forward to seeing more. The 230v the heavy stuff. The computer , phone lights. Fridge freezer the telly etc. Added to gather, and at night. That's what tests the measure of these type of set. Up. Or so I was led to understand. If these run a boat. With the all in one approach. It's much cheaper than running a conventional boat set up.

A blizzard of numbers, Mark, but easily understandable. (Alright, I was a CT/MRI engineer when I worked!) I'm actually amazed at just how much power can be drawn from solar - always better to be charging storage rather than driving a 'real life' load - and how much use you an make of your (roughly) 1 Kw. I wonder how much you have saved in diesel you haven't used for battery charging? Have you ever contemplated going electric drive for the boat? David (Cruising the Cut) did a review of a boat with an "Azipod" drive (which I know would be too massive a change to make without really messing the boat up) you may have seen? I was very impressed at the overall philosophy of driving the boat (and everything) on electrickery while having a silent generator SOMEWHERE in the boat for emergency/top up sans solar. Great vlog Mark (sorry to see England only got Bronze, but hey-ho, its a podium!)

Thanks Roger. I would love to be able to afford an electric boat as I think with most things its the future as battery and solar technology develops. England got a lot further than most expected so any podium finish was a bonus

From my memory you get something like a 10% loss with lithium vs 30% round trip with lead acid. Still watching the video, you should have a lot more hot water from solar. I would be interested to know if you have noticed that. I guess when you started with this new system was going into winter.

Another fantastic video 👍 Question on the recharge, I know there's lots of variables to consider but could you give a rough estimate on how long from 0% - 100% for a solar only charge and a solar & generator charge?

Between 1.8 and 2.3 hours with maximum 2400 watts of solar, around 2 hours from a 3000 watt mains source and 1.5 hours for combined solar and mains

Amazing Mark… I have started with the JACKERY Explorer 500 just for when I am out and about, eventually I am looking at getting an upgrade similar… it’s just the technical hook ups I’m anxious about. Not being too technically minded, it’s probably not as difficult as one imagines, but it’s a definite step in the right direction… A question, what about heating up the emersion system. I understand you already have a ‘solar dump’.

I understand the idea for portability (semi given the weight) etc. but for a narrow boat how does this compare financially to buying lithium batteries to replace your lead acid batteries and of course upgrading anything as required in the charging and power management parts? I really do like the idea of being able to easily switch battery packs or add more without feeling daunted by the work that would entail with a normal battery array.
@welldeckdiaries5610

Buying separate item of similar capacity and quality would work out more expensive Victron 3000w inverter/charger £1200 Victron 100/50 MPPT £215 x 2 £430 Victron 100Ah lithium battery £999 x 2 £2000 Total £3630 Then you’ve got the cost of all the other items and heavy duty wiring and installation costs if your not able to carry out the installation yourself.

Selling the acid batteries you might take that money and put toward a Lifepo4 12v battery maybe as back up, you cannot have too many backups. Maybe use it to heat water?
@colinstewart173

Dunno if I’m missing something but why not just bin the lead acid and put it Lifepo4 batteries that integrate with solar, inverter, engine charge etc?

Thanks for watching and commenting. Not missing anything as that’s also an option. It’s just with these plug and play 51.2VDC Lifepo4 systems there no need for all the big heavy gauge wiring that a 12VDC system needs. Just trying to show people what other option are available

I have the Bluetti 200AC Max. I’ve got the PV200 Bluetti panel. I’d love to connect my boats solar to the Bluetti (got just shy of 1.3KW of roof panels). I’m no DIY expert. How easy is it to connect up? Can you point me towards a Vlog if you’ve already covered this? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

It would all depend on how everything is wired on your boat, it not complicated. At the moment im just unplugging my solar from where it enter my boat via MC4 connectors and plugging these directly into the MC4 cable that come with the bluetti

Also, the Bluetti AC300 is not the best out there. It's ok, will work ok. But it's proven to NOT produce the amperage advertised. As the Aferiy system doesn't either, the other system you showed us recently that you highly recommended but that does NOT work as advertised. I don't know about the UK (or Wales or Scotland or northern Ireland), but in the USA, the Renogy system is rated FAR superior to any other, and it is available in the UK. I've tested five different systems on my boats and in my travel trailer ... Renogy wins every test. And I'm not being paid by Renogy. 🙂 And for remote (not hard-wired) battery systems, Jackery wins hands down every time. I've tested inordinate number of batteries and battery systems ... Jackery has proven the best for batteries that are not hard-wired but are "remote" systems that are used with their own cables, and can certainly be cabled permanently into your boat or caravan. For a truly hard-wired, permanent system, other batteries might be better, but you need to do TECHNICAL research/testing. But Mark you plug things into your boat system and then use their success as proof that the Aferiy or the Bluetti systems work. You need to test the actual input and output of each system using digital technology, not just that a mower or weed eater works or the laundry works or anything else. Please give us real input and output of each system and their draw on your batteries, the time/amperage needed to recharge, etc. And then compare those numbers to another system that you test in exactly the same way. The weight of that Bluetti at 36 kilos is less than 80 pounds. I lift 140 pound C7 Ford transmissions from the floor up to the bench, by hand, no tranny jack helping. I weigh 140 pounds, and I lift 140 pounds. Of course I'm not a "guy" so maybe, well, hmmm. And then there's your question "what would you GUYS do?" Well, we gals would do proper research and buy the best product. 🙂 I love your vlog, Mark. I really do. I hope your research about electrical systems will improve. You know I'm a life-long retired gas/diesel truck mechanic. My comment is not to criticize, but to help.
