You speak of a very Buddhist philosophy. "A man that walks too far east, ends up in the west." Take anything to its extreme and it turns into its opposite. I enjoy your commentary. Hoof N Homestead

its sad but many dont understand that positive and negative are very subjective.

You have it easier than most people training dogs because you have a lake with dead trees in it.

Thank you so much for this comment. Made me smile. Just today I got three comments talking about this. Saying of course my dogs are good because of what I have.

I'm sure you have your pack in order. But do you have high level functional obedience skills and want to touch on that topic?

Things like recall, sit/down stay, maybe even a safe command? I taught my dog a safe command, it's her going in between my legs and sitting. It's been very helpful during times we are in crowds and I need her to be safe and not have people touching her.

What’s considered high level functional obedience? I need some examples of what this means because to each it means something completely different.

@@markdubose1986 what does it mean to you? Curious.

@@markdubose1986 i think they mean a dog who performs great despite whats going on in the environment. like a dog who can do an off leash down stay while fireworks are going off.

@@markdubose1986 Any command which used under high distraction in society or in presence of animals and under duration. Like heeling through a crowd for 10 mins straight. Recalling a dog when he already began chasing a rabbit. Downing at a dog park with other dogs coming at or sniffing at a dog. I am interested in the resilience to the environment.
