That grinder seems like it's come a long way from the first OBM grinders. Seems like a heck of a budget option for sure. Some of the "premium" grinders do have some features that put them in that "premium" category like enclosed bearings on the pivoting feature, non marring plates for the tooling arms, machined axels instead of bolts, ratcheting tension arms, and things like that.... but at the end of the day for the budget conscious a grinder like this can fit the bill. Or heck if you want to have 2+ grinders... it could make since to go this route as well. Intriguing for sure. Good video

Started out on a 1x30 like many others... 'upgraded' to a 2x42 and then ended up with an OBM. Have had it for around 3 years now and it's never let me down. Most recently, picked up the same Dominator that you have and I use them both now. Really like them. Just recently found your channel and subbed.

I've had a KMG for years and it's a total workhorse. So much so I added their big boy last year. Totally happy with them...they are bulletproof.

building the grinder gave me a well founded ability to go further with my budget and understand the machine enough to repair and add great jigs. For new smiths like me, it is a great route to consider. I have been building machines and rebuilding things like a Harig 612. for over a year. If you take time to get the tools right, the cutting is predictable. My second attempt to make a blade mirrors the drawing. When I did my first ever blade and adjusted my pass for an out of square platen, the magic of the path responding to my touch.....I was so happy, that I got overexcited and took a pass (or two) upside down and could not save it. My second was so correct that I faced it off on a mag sine / mini mill and it brought the plnge lines out beyond my expectations.......I now have markings on my axis wheels and no plunge lines on prototype #2. ;)

The weld together grinder kits would be great if they were sold at least 50% cheaper than their current price.. the accessories available from the manufacturer is what really sets them apart from each other..their is a difference between hobbyist level and professional level equipment..the OBM grinder would be great for a hobbyist level in my opinion but I'm going to get an Ameribrade grinder for 2x the cost simply because of the precision, duty cycle and accessories available for it..its personal choice..Buy once, Cry once..

I have a Brodbeck & an OBM, I still use both, plus all my attachments are interchangeable, at the end of the day it’s just money, I say get what you like and can afford and make it work! Hey if someone can’t afford a 2 x 72 there are some nice files out there! 🤣🤣🤙🏼

Hi, in Europe you can get a fully enclosed, 3hp grinder build out of steel with custom screws, etc. with flat platen, small wheel attachment and a vfd for ~1100€ which equals ~1270$. It also includes tilting. Paying any more is, in my opinion, just a rip off for money (when we talk about the same features).

@@gentrycustomknives8008 They say that OBM copied there grinders after others design. The way I see it is it’s a 2x72 grinder they are all made the same way more or less. They say that their customer service is crap, but I’ve never had a problem with it. There is one “person” who makes his own and sells them as a kit and the majority of the people back him. ( I’ve got a feeling you know who I am talking about).

I realize it’s uncomfortable to be critical of a manufactures product, but your vague references aren’t at all helpful to me as a consumer. Why the rant if it tells us nothing? Other than saying that you think some products are overpriced, nothing you said was helpful. In a capitalistic system, manufacturers are out to make a profit and will charge whatever the buyer is willing to pay. That doesn’t make them inherently evil. As you said, it behooves the buyer to do their research, and base their decisions accordingly. As long as the seller doesn’t make any false claims about their product offerings, l can’t begrudge them for how high they price it. I don’t have to buy it, however. Your statements can be made about almost any consumer product. Eventually the “market place” will sort it all out. If you build a superior product, provide great costumer service, and price it fairly, you’ll outlast the completion. How will l know if you meet these criteria? My primary source would be informative reviews by nonpartisan users of said product. Advertising is biased and only tells me so much. Paid endorsements mean nothing. If you really want to help us out, you have to be willing to put it all out there and say “this product sucks because...” otherwise, what’s the point?
