Sneaker culture isn’t dead, but there are many factors that play into why it’s where it’s at rn. I personally fell out of love with sneakers when expensive meant 🔥. The state of the economy is also an obvious one. The trajectory of trends has also meant that people who were only into sneakers for hype have now left to glaze other things, which leaves people who’ve been down for the culture from the start. Which makes it look like the culture is falling off, but really it just got weeded out. The point of entry is also another one in my opinion. If I wanted a pair of Travis 1s but can’t afford them, I’m forced to buy Mochas.
@pedrorojas01165 ай бұрын
Yea it's not dead at all just people have other priorities and responsibilities that are more important than getting the latest heat or just grails in general, the economy is bad rn which is the most obvious reason why people ain't buying rn bc they can't afford to do it when everything is going up in price, not all of us can get money from our youtube channel/businesses.

As a New or current sneakerhead collector it is a great time to buy! The ability to go to a store and pick up a pair of Jordans or Dunks for retail or on sale is great!! I know resellers are in their toughest positions right now to stay afloat in the resell market. Resell is the lowest it has ever been and not in demand as it use to be. I think Nike and Jordan are doing a great job in keeping the future reselling to a minimum.
@pedrorojas01165 ай бұрын
Yea thank God that it hit the resellers this hard, they're the main reason why the sneaker industry got so bad and expensive, I literally struggled to get a GR release of any Jordan's 4 years ago and it was irrating how everything was released with such limited numbers and how that caused everything to go up to ridiculous prices, like 300 for some mediocre looking pair of 1s was the most ludicrous thing I saw in my whole life as a sneakerhead, I noticed last year how prices were going down and how more accessible some pairs were than before which gave some hope that maybe everything might go back down to normal/cheaper prices. Rn is the best time to get pairs you want

It’s official: resell is dead. A majority of ppl ain’t paying top dollar for hyped shoes or clothing anymore. That’s a fact. The oversaturation didn’t help but pair that with the economy and rising prices … the writing’s BEEN on the wall ✍️ It’s clearly a conflict of interest for Richie and the gang considering they have a resell store though

It's just not worth it or wise to spend so much money on kicks rn, people have bills and things to take care of with horrible economy we have at this moment
@bern7175 ай бұрын
@@pedrorojas0116 Yes exactly. I also think .. people have kind of “grown up” for lack of a better term. Or maybe, tastes of our generation is changing so sneakers aren’t a priority anymore. There’s always gonna be kids/young adults wanting sneakers tho
@pedrorojas01165 ай бұрын
@bern717 yea it's a factor as to why sales have been affected but it's not a major one atleast, not enough to make a noticeable difference in the whole industry. There have been moments in time when sneakers weren't as popular or trendy but the whole state of the industry didn't get hit like it is rn. Trust me rn people don't have the money rn to blow on some kicks that cost as much or half your rent yk. It's not justifiable at the moment and it's honestly not even a surprise a lot of other industries are getting hit very hard rn
@bern7175 ай бұрын
@@pedrorojas0116 that’s all fair. Another point is I believe sneaker innovation jus isn’t there rn. There’s only so many times we get the same Jordan retros and Dunks shoved down our throats.

Nike floods the market, which hurts resale but helps them. They see more of the profit. They are starting to re-release loved sneakers more often with people still buying. The re-release is meant to hurt the hoarders. I'd also add quality being a little worse means they don't last as long, hence buy again.

That's the biggest reason why I haven't gone back to sneakers honestly, especially Jordan's, the price is way too damn high for the quality, once I got into boots I realized that going for quality is better than going for hype/branding.

Its the same cycle every handful of years. Once popular sneakers grow out of fashion or touch with a new sneakerhead gen, prices drop, new shoes gain popularity, reselling plummits and a celebrity or influencer pops off a different model or classic colorway... cycle starts all over again.

I had similar viewpoint to this (that eventually the hype/resell culture will come back ) but I think Nike has finally put their foot down and upped the supply of their sneakers to the point where most ppl can get em albeit at a slightly higher price. That simple change has affected resellers and hype to an insane degree

Hell tf no Of the 2 models, Blk cement 4s in suede are the only ones that will look right, and maybe because that’s what we’re familiar with. However leather really exclamates the shoe. It’s ok to rewrite history if it’s for the better.

It's not the sneaker culture which is dead... Only the people that got involved with sneakers only because of hype that moved on. So sneaker culture is back to its original state where sneakerheads are the only ones left. And of course a few more resellers than way back. Sneaker collecting is a niche thing. If you're not really passionate about it you'll lose interest.

Tan said the sneaker community is too big of a category. Sneakers are like video games. It was once a subculture but it's so tied into pop culture now. Yes, you have your sneakerheads but you also have your gamers. To say you're into Jordan 1's, AF1s, and dunks is like saying you're into 2k, Fortnite or Call of Duty. Nothing inherently wrong with that. When Johnny said sneakers peaked, it made me think how video games have shifted into DLC and loot boxes to pay to win. Nike found a formula with a hot collab and soon, there's a collaboration dropping almost every other week. I think this week alone there was the Trophy Room collaboration, Rayssa Leal dunks, and AMM Air Ship. Consumers are being more mindful with their decisions and straying away from buying the dunks they don't need, the Ultimate Team packs they don't need, the loot boxes they don't need, and overall straying away from those communities when the expectation is they need to drop money to stand out
@Videogameprodigy3006 ай бұрын
sneaks hit a Peak!! here for it as someone who loves sneakers, Used or new. but for sure times are hard when they get better no one’s spending 500 on sneakers, they’re spending it on the things we can’t get now. houses,cars, clothes, jewelry, and other things.

Yea that's what everyone is doing these days it'll change soon from that lol, when I was a senior in high school it was all about the 1s or the forces, with certain hoodies or jackets and new era hats. After I graduated it just changed year after year after that, saw blazers and dunks come back, more Jordan's being rocked, new balance was everywhere too at one point. Now it's changing into western/formal dressing. Button ups, chinos or pleated pants and boots or loafers or any kind of dress style shoe or boot.
