What a great discussion, thank you for sharing! The idea that I am living through early stages of the fall of the American empire is often on my mind as an American. The way this country operates on so many levels (and modern western society in general) is just far too unsustainable. It's not an *if* our society collapses, it's when. There are things we as humanity can do to save ourselves, but unfortunately as a collective we are pretty unintelligent. I love people, but I am so disappointed with humanity as s whole.

A lot of politicians fear for their career and compensation.

In the opinion of a random guy on the web, it will be worse. Because if we look back at this time of history and compare it to today, their are several big differences. At this time, people were driven, they had hopes, strong families ties, religious communities and stable governments. Today, we have religions destroyed by Nietzsche's disciples and replaced by nothing but nihilism, the nuclear family is being destroyed, governments are weak and corrupted, the young have no hopes for the future and narcissism is everywhere. Everything is in appearance, nothing in substance. People wants to destroy but don't know how to build, they hate themselves and projects this hate on everyone else. Everyone that is not part of their hive mind is dehumanized and it's strictly the first step before what will inevitably follow... What i fear is just by looking at history, how people in the 1920's, who were stable peoples inside of stable communities, with strong ties, were able to commit such atrocities as the Nazis and Communists, what kind of horrors the ones of today, who have already lost their minds, will commit ? So, no it's not the same thing. It's just the first wake-up call of a monstrous beast which many will welcome with joy.

I wonder if in 10 years time we will look back on the ideology of American Supremacy and see it as the same poison that drove those atrocities you speak of. The ruin of Ukraine and events in Gaza will be seen in a similar light to the horrors of the American century.

I think the closest analogy to the decline of the US empire is the decline of the ancient Persian empire.

I fear we are not in 1956, but in early 1914.

I don't think we can truly say it's an end of empire moment until the USD is dropped as the world's reserve currency. After that happens, the USA will become just another regional power nation and no longer a hegemon. The resulting economic crises that would result would probably trigger state successions from the USA and a breakup of the nation as well.

Interesting point. It might only take a big enough decline in the relative share of the USD as world's reserve currency. USA should learn from the case of the Soviet Union which i discussed kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5DTfmmlnb5pnrcsi=Rb-Skbvhz9siH6aV

I’m an American, and I think we Yankees made a big mistake not standing with the Brits, French and Israelis. Afterwards the West began to struggle during the Cold War, when you consider Sputnik, ICBMs, the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. It could have been worse, imagine Nasser helping Khrushchev during the Cuban missile crisis?? Say closing off the Suez Canal to the west. Just think of how China gave its support to Russia during the Cuban Missile crisis in exchange for invading India. Had the Americans stood with the Brits, French and Israelis, it’s possible the Cold War would have ended with the Soviets. Just think of the U.S. standing with the Brits during the Falklands War, as well as helping Britain fight against the IRA in the 1980s. I’m also angry at what America did during the Washington naval conference of 1922 in breaking up the alliance with Japan and Britain. I think that helped Japan become more aggressive to hurt Britain, the USA and Australia which would make the Australians grow distant to Britain as the host says.

This guy ignore the fact that the Brits war over the Suez was more as it includes the vital control of Oil transit of Iran and Mideast Oil to Europe.
@theburningarchive8 ай бұрын
True, I did not talk much about that and it was a factor. The historian, John Darwin, in his book on the British Empire, however, emphasised it was less important that the reassertion of British power and status. But opnions differ, thanks for sharing yours.

It was Iranian Oil that fuel the British Power during WW I as they transition from Steam to Petrol. Hence, the issue over the Anglo Iranian Oil Company. Oil was first discovered in Iran about 1904.

simply are just the wheels of time 1917/1927/1947. By 1956 changes took place the same as 1967/1968. Those changes are now reestablished a return to 1917 “if you like” nothing up normal just a wave bringing sand back to the sea for a new crest of renewing 1956/1967 realm, renaissance of 1947. 😉🪐🌎🌍🌏🏔
