Gibbs knows Barbossa as well as anyone and was marvelling at the confidence trick he was playing on the crew. Gibbs was most likely the source of the disquiet and we know he is the superstitious type. @nx91003 жыл бұрын
Holy crap! I never noticed Gibs doing that! Nice detail.
@glitterboy20983 жыл бұрын
@@laszlokaestner5766 you have to figure that Gibbs had seen Barbossa pull that trick several times. notice how the bit about the crew being nervous about the destination echos both how barbossa conned the pearl from Jack Sparrow as described in the first film, but also the way that the third film ended with Pentel and ragetti (and the two former brits) coming to barbossa (where they find out that jack stole the chart.) so odds are it occurs often enough for barbossa to know he has to psyche the crew up or face a mutiny. frankly i suspect that Gibbs was the one to start the rumors that led to this scene, in hopes of triggering just that sort of confrontation, and part of his expression is surprise at how well barbossa managed to turn the tables and turn the men's fears into determination.

For anyone curious, Sirens and mermaids are two separate myths in Greek mythology. Mermaids were known as neraids in ancient greece and were the daughters of various sea gods and goddesses. Sirens (of which there were only 3) were mortal women cursed into half birds by Demeter for angering her. They were defeated by Odysseus when he successfully resisted their song during his voyage. It's only in today's fantasy shows that the 2 myths were merged into one.

He'll confuse you till you agree with him. With Barbossa, he'll motivate or threaten the hell out of you till you agree with him. The one thing though is that Jack can hold an audience better than Barbossa can. Because in their propositions to the Bretheren Court after Barbossa's speech about freeing Calypso, people still held their individual opinions and disgreed with him. But after Jack's Cuttlefish tirade, people forgot what they were even thinking about and just agreed with him. Lol
