I think after season 7 Trevor Bannister/Mr Dick Lucas left the show i agree I can see he's not funny Mr Lucas was far more funnier especially when he and Mrs Slocombe bickered back and forth

Apparently more lines were given to Mr Humphries Mr. Lucas was too "old" for a junior and his parts were seemingly getting smaller, so he felt obliged to leave.

Other sources say he left because filming clashed with a long tour of a play he had a role in. But yes, the show was started as a vehicle for Bannister, as the "straight man" (no pun intended 😂) among a group of oddball characters. He originally shared top billing with Molly Smudgen. He did have a successful stage and pantomime carreer before and after AYBS, and went on to regular roles in Last of the Summer Wine and Coronation Street.

Yes,better. They sounded funny in regular speed. This episode wasn't as funny as the others,but still a good episode. One if my favorite shows. The part with Mrs. Slocum and the trucker was the funniest part😂😂

A lot of the later episodes became too theatrical - often happens with writers when they run out of ideas. It becomes a show rather than a sit com set in a clothing store. I think this is why Seinfeld got out when he was at the top of his game and Fawlty Towers only did 12 episodes.

I just love this show . But it's not as good as when MR LUCAS was in it . He was one of the best . The man who took his place isn't that good. Don't watch it as much as I did 😢

I can immediately tell that this is an early episode. The characters weren't fully developed into the perfection this show became. For instance Captain Peacock didn't have his signature baritone like voice. I'm an American and my daughter watches British cartoons (Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom) and the only sitcom show I watch is this show and I listen to Ricky Gervais, Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchants podcast along with Russell's podcast from time to time. My Grandfather says I need to watch Benny Hill. I've heard it's great, just haven't the time as of late.
