I wish the so called comedy sitcom shows of recent years was this funny! They are less of them nowadays, and reality shows became popular, and I never understood that at all on how people could watch that crap. Almost all of them were scripted and not real, and for them being called reality shows was bullshit! They not as popular when people started to find out they were scripted, and a few more comedy shows have shown up, which I have never watched. I love watching to old very funny shows like this one. Some of yall probably hate me for saying that I found the show The Nanny was an absolute horrible show. I hated that crap, and also Friends. To me they were not funny and the writers should of learned from the writers of this one, Mrs. Bucket, Golden Girls, and all in the family, oh almost forgot to mention Good times. Wish that kind of funny shows would come back again! 🎥😔

Watched this with my mom on PBS in the 90s. Happy memories, & the show is as enjoyable now as it was then. One of the many things I like about it is the blunt criticism or mockery traded among the characters, things that are likely to be very embarrassing, even devastating to a person. The one criticized invariably responds as you would imagine anyone would - and then they all go on: "Yes. Well, as I was saying, young Mr. Grace will be down here in five minutes, so I want you all to..." Makes me realize that such traumatic social situations are what we make them. Love all the characters, and enjoy reading the comments of others who love this show. Thanks for posting it!

One of my favorite episodes and series! No disrespect to the actors who took over as senior assistant in the Men's Department after Mr. Grainger but he was the best in my opinion. It seemed like he wasn't acting at all just being himself. The show is comedy at it's finest.

I watch these episodes over and over. Rather than getting trite or boring, they improve. Truly great writing. Simple, but clever. You constantly find new gems. Mr Rumbold (my least favorite character) on the phone: Hello, who is this? What do you mean you can’t guess? I’m not asking you to guess who I am. I’m asking who you are. You won’t tell me until I tell you. 🤣 Stupid, simple, hilarious.

"...no, the one who looks like Steptoe..." I had no idea, after watching this show several times over 20 years, what the laugh was, until I saw Steptoe and Son on KZbin (in America it is Sanford and Son), now it makes more sense.
@barryhinson98192 жыл бұрын
Yeah Howard,, Sanford and son was an Americanised copy of of Steptoe. Hate to say it but the translation was lost on me… but then I hate to admit it, but I find American comedy dull… the same with “the office” yet another copy of a British show.. .. But at least they were popular with American audiences… so many British shows failed… and American versions of them. Comedy shows like “RED Dwarf” and another Sci Fi show - Dr Who. Dr Who has been going for nearly 60 years.. it was first broadcast in 1963… on the very day JFK was assassinated. Until it’s restart in 2003/5 America just did not want to know about it.

It's a shame Moira Foot wasn't part of the show for more than a couple of episodes, she was underrated as the ditzy secretary. The scene of her trying to call Captain Peacock is hilarious
