I'm not trying to downplay anyone's negative experience in this video because I know bad things can happen here. Not everyone's experience will be good, although I wish it were. But sometimes I read comments, see videos, and read messages about some of the most bizarre things that make me think there is more to the story than what's being told. I don't believe this is always the case but I also believe a lot of times it is the case. I sometimes feel people try to make the Dominican Republic this horrible and dangerous place when it's not. But when things happen it's not always because you are a foreigner, sometimes it's how you're moving, being naive and letting your guard down that makes you a target in certain situations that you would never do if you were in your home country.

I think the Dominican mindset is different from that of Americans. They will try to take advantage at every turn. I say this out of experience. My wife is Dominican and I go back and forth often. I'm from a major city in the US and I don't trust everyone that I meet. You must keep your head on a swivel at all times. I've also noticed that Dominicans will join forces against a foreigner even if they are wrong. A young man hit my rental car in Valverde because he was being reckless. I stood quiet because I didn't want him to know that I was American. He demanded money because his motocross was damaged. He caused the problem. A crowd started to form so I just gave him 5000 pesos an left the scene. If the police arrived I was probably looking at a night in jail. I keep my circle of people very small because everyone is not your friend just like in the US. I feel very sad that you have to be more vigilant in DR. My wallet was stolen once. I was double charged at a nice restaurant in Santiago. The attendant at the gas station stole my credit card information. Yes these things happen in the United States. Now I use cash as often as possible. It is definitely a learning curve. You have to move differently. I couldn't get a flight in December for Christmas that arrived during the day. I don't trust the taxi drivers because they sometimes set up unsuspecting riders. It is best to pay a family member or friend to drove you from the airport. The Uber drivers will try to scam you by not shutting off the app when you leave the car. Switch your account to crash only. Only drink with family or vetted friends. I try to only drink at my home because I feel safer. Counterfeit money is not uncommon so be aware.

@@NorberisR DR has it's problems. I believe that every country does. I just wish that the bad actors in DR could see that they make it bad for other Dominicans as well as visitors. If I as a visitor have a good experience, I am more apt to return. Going to Punta Cana for 5 nights is not truly the Dominican experience. I enjoy the weather, the beach, the music and the food. What I lothe are the people that take advantage of visitors. The police are a subject for another day.

Screw that, Some people are typical victim, when you see them you want to rob them... But other you think twice. I had my phone out in the open in public spaces like on the street and even at dualte market and no one robed me... It all depend on how you carry yourself. Where I grew up, people were snatching phones, purses, and handbag... So I know how to carry myself and i noticed that most of those being robbed looks like easy target... Many people live in a bubble their whole life, totally naïve of the rest of the world. Fortunately I have lived in a handful of Latin/Caribbean countries and realize how to maneuver in these different cultures. Many people out there need to get sped up on how things actually work in the DR before they arrive so they can maneuver correctly, spend some time asking question in the FB expat groups. Then there are those people who are naïve/idiots who I have no sympathy for at all. Some girl takes all their money, they get robbed on the subway at 2 am staring down at their phone, not presenting themselves as a "hard target" or thinking properly before they act. Learn how things are in a foreign country so you don't get taken advantage of, put the work in and learn.

Hello Norberis, it's nice to hear from you again. Are you a target or just too naive? A good question. Anything negative that can happen to someone in the DR can happen to anyone anywhere in the world. For example, if a tourist is robbed in a dark area in Santo Domingo, he should first ask himself what he is doing there and whether something like this could happen to him in his home country. In my opinion yes for sure. The ripping off of visitors in the tourist areas, whether by any vendors or the easy Chicas, there is in Spain, Italy, etc.. too. Being scammed when purchasing land or real estate. This also happens in Europe. Often just the way is different. Certainly the clarification rate and the necessary will to do so is also much higher. Almost all crimes here are cleared up. Yes, naivety and lifestyle make a difference. Nobody should jump into a shark tank with a bleeding wound. Internet crime is currently booming here in Europe, including a lot of real estate fraud. For me, the DR is one of the safest countries in the Latin American world. If someone has a different opinion, then that person should travel to Colombia, where you should take a taxi at night for a 300-meter walk. And that even in idyllic Santa Marta. And there are also much more dangerous places where problems will inevitably arise.

I guess me trying to show some balance to all the negative things about my country struck a nerve😂🤣. As long as people are saying all the women are working girls, all the women are cheaters, we're racist, we ain't black, etc it's all good. Everyone chimes in an amens the comments. But as soon as someone says all these accusations aren't completely true, then everyone gets bent out of shape because it doesn't fit their narrative. Puhhleeze🤣😂

Norberis, I guess all back men are gangsta and drug dealers from the ghetto. I mean if he can call how he sees it I guess I can too. They are quick to say you are offended because you approach it from a different angle, when apparently they are the ones who are offended because they don't want to accept any accountability for the things that may happen to them. This is typical of black people always playing the victim. They are victims in their own country and everywhere else they go they are still the victim. Look at all the KZbin videos of them crying about being taken advantage of in DR, Brazil, and Colombia. I'm just calling it how I see it, right? From what I gather for m this video, you're not denying anyone's experience you're just saying it's not always what people think it is. It seems very logical to me to look at it from both angles. This guy is all in his emotions, it's apparent by all the exclamation points he is using to express himself. It lurks of feminine energy. Keep coming with the great content and bringing balance to the one sided conversation about DR.
