The truth is a flawless crystalline matrix, due to the law of non-contradiction. Ideas that are false cannot be joined to the matrix of truth -- the crystal rejects all flaws -- this is the fundamental nature of 'reality'. If multiple things start 'adding up', using known facts and propositional logic, then a theory is far more likely to be true, than false (because it's coherent with reality).

@@mrwojna Well, start by envisioning a self-evident truth as a node in a crystal lattice. If you perform any valid logical transformation on that known truth, you will arrive at a new valid node in this matrix, which necessarily connects to the rest of the crystal due to the law of non-contradiction (something that is true can never contradict something else that is true). If it were not so, then reality would contradict itself, and there would be only chaos (my beer would be cold, but also it could be warm, which is incoherent). If a theory is actually true, then the theory cannot contradict any known real facts, even as new facts are discovered. For example, let's say the local DA has a theory that you killed your neighbor... but it's a provable fact that you were in another state on the day he was killed. The DA's theory MUST be false. On the other hand, if you really did kill your neighbor, you will find it impossible to come up with any real facts that prove you are innocent. So we have two patterns to recognize, for evaluating theories... true theories will be coherent with facts as they are discovered, and untrue theories will lack any facts that prove they are true (by logical necessity). I wish I knew where to read about this subject, because I also want to study it. I can only suggest that you take a deep dive into watching the full debates of Dr. William Lane Craig, and follow his propositional logic very carefully. After a while, you will begin to take note that one side of the debates are forced to rely on snarky sarcasm, equivocation, logical fallacies, obfuscation, empty rhetoric, and outright lies (very similar to watching Karin Jean Pierre answer questions). This is a hallmark of someone who cannot use truth to prove their point. Devious debate tactics are all they have, because they are wrong. If they were right, they would have endless facts to back up their assertions.

@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 but by your definition, things don't add up, things simply can't be refuted. and this is why conspiracy theories live in the darkness. they're attractive to people who don't know a lot because they don't have the information available to contradict those things. a person walks into a room with a smile on their face. two minutes later they walk out upset followed by another person. a conspiracy theorist would believe they have some knowledge about what occurred in that room. there's no data to contradict whatever story they tell. what tends to happen is once they've decided they know, then when new information is made available they discard the information that refutes their belief and adhere to anything that supports it. eventually you end up with "the entire gov't is corrupt" and "all doctors are liars" and whatever else needs to be true in order to keep their theory alive in the blizzard of contradictory information.

The technique used by Dr. Ralph Baric is called "no-see-um" gain of function. First, you co-infect the same cell with two different viruses. Each virus will hijack one of the cell's ribosomes to make its component parts, including its genetic sequences. Then the parts are assembled. Think of a virus like a lego structure. When it replicates, it makes the component blocks, not whole structure. Now imagine blue structures and red structures being assembled at the same time in the same factory from a big pile of jumbled up red and blue blocks. You're going to get cases where blue blocks find their way into a red structure, and vice versa. It's entirely possible that this virus is part pangolin. If they had a virus with a pangolin receptor binding domain and furin cleavage site, they could generate a bat coronavirus with those pangolin coronavirus features. And because all you're doing is giving nature a little nudge, there's no way to prove it didn't occur naturally. This isn't a matter of randomly occurring genetic mutations that might alter, remove or add ONE amino acid. This is genetic recombination between two strains of virus. That's what Dr. Garry was getting at. He couldn't see a way that random mutations could account for these multiple changes. In nature, most mutations are duds. They hinder reproduction or survivability. Some may improve one or both and they'll thrive. Each of these alterations would have made the virus less transmissible in bats. Each on their own would be duds. They'd have to all be inserted at the same time to create a bat virus uniquely transmissible in humans. And the odds of that happening all at once, as Garry said would be necessary, are infinitesimally low. CRISPR and other gene-splicing techniques leave distinct footprints on the genome. This method does not. If you looked at my dog's genome, you wouldn't be able to tell if he was selectively bred, or if he was the product of two dogs selecting each other the way nature intended. You WOULD be able to tell if he'd been gene-spliced. So. THIS method is GREAT for bioweapons, because there'd be no way to tell it was engineered. It COULD have occurred in nature, even though the odds approach zero, so as long as you shred all the evidence, you're good.
