"Queue" is actually originating from french. It can be translated litteraly to "tail". It also has the same meaning than in english ("faire la queue" = "queuing"). In french it kind of sounds like "ke" with "e" sounding like in "the". That explains why it is spelled so weirdly.

The cement thing is easy: mostly sunny weather. (No Roman Empire in Siberia.) Same applies to southern California; you can watch silent films (almost entirely filmed in LA) from the Teens and Twenties, then watch a "what that area looks like today" comparison video, and the square cement panels on the sidewalk are the same. Cement will last forever with gentle weather. They probably have to re-do all the sidewalks in Buffalo every 3 years.
@johnr797 Жыл бұрын
No, Roman cement is literally a different mixture.
@gandalf_thegrey Жыл бұрын
@@johnr797 Yet everything he said is true. As the name suggest its still something we recognize as cement and its therefore logical it follows its properties at least some what. And rough weather is not only damaging for cement, but everything. So hes entirely correct when he says the Romans would have not done the same if they occupied Siberia.

9:32 mathematically, it's possible that he had more than 20 patients, all with a wide variety of results. he could have done procedure 40 times. The first 20 times they all failed, and the most recent 20 times (which is what he is mentioning) were all success, giving the failure a rate of 50%. Though clearly if he is able to do it 20 times in a row without fail, regardless of what happened before, he clearly has improved since.
@jdksdj11 Жыл бұрын
another way of understanding this joke is to compare it to a toss coin. You have really small chances to land every 20 coins on the same side (0.0000954 %) and 21st try would be even smaller. Ofc it's not how probability works, but it's just a joke.

The maths one was about probability-so if there is a 50% chance to succeeding, you have to multiply that by itself x amount of times to find out the probability of succeeding x amount of times in a row. so for a 50% survival chance to work 20 times it would be 1/2^20 which is a very small number which is why the mathematicians were terrified. On the other hand, the other ones understood that in reality the doctor only has to run the odds once for each individual person-so the chance of survival is always the same, even though if you were to use probability, the chance would be miniscule.
