USMC vet here. I served from 1989-1993 and just received a 10% rating for tinnitus and my exam was just a couple weeks ago. I watched this and a couple other videos before going so I would be aware of what the exam would be like. I was a 3521 diesel mechanic with the 2nd Combat Engineers at Camp Lejeune my last two years of service. Four things to be ready for the exam. 1. Started during service and state the specific year. 2. Both ears. 3. Always present. 4. Be ready to give specific examples of what would have caused the start of tinnitus, limited ear protection provided and or used. I was concerned I would not receive a rating because I did not suffer hearing loss but the examiner stated that she definitely supported my claim and would write the opinion for review. Thank you so much for creating this video! It certainly provides information that helps with confidence going into the exam. One thing I'd say to anyone who knows someone getting ready to head to boot camp to serve is to let them know to report ANY health issues during their service and get it in their service records. It will make getting disabilities service connected far easier.

Was in the first SOC platoon in 3rd Marine Division 3rd Recon Bn. back in 1988. Door breaches, live indoor fire for room clearing, live fire in a bus, plus flash bangs. Ears have been ringing since 1988. Just had a C&P exam last week for tinnitus. After the hearing test the examiner also added bi-lateral hearing loss. So we will see.

Just went to Gainesville to my C&P appointment today. It was for tinnitus, but they also gave me the hearing test. I believe everything went well as I have watched videos prior to going and knew what to say and what not to say. Also my army MOS was 62 echo which I believe is the highest category. So from what I’ve been reading, it’s gonna take 3 to 6 months to hear back whether I got the 10% rating or not. I enjoy these videos. They are very informative.

Hi guys. Army vet here. Thanks for making these videos. In 1982, while stationed in Germany, I spray painted numerous military vehicles with camouflage paints called Chemical Agent Resistant Coatings (CARC). (The VA’s website describes what it is and how it’s harmful.). When I was assigned to paint, I was not provided with any PPE and there was no ventilation/exhaust equipment inside the motor pool bay in which I did the spray painting. I was also never warned about any potential harmful effects of direct skin contact and inhalation of the cleaning solvents and CARC paint. The paint would stick to my hair, eye lashes, and eyebrows. I would have to constantly blow my nose and wipe the paint from inside, as the paint would stick to my nose hairs. I would also spit out paint with mucus. I recently learned that at that time, CARC contained hexavalent chromium and harmful isocyanates. (The Army Research Laboratory has a video on KZbin verifying this entitled “Coatings”.) I have a number of health concerns that I want to get evaluated for, but I have yet to schedule a medical appointment because I want to make sure I get a proper examination and not just a routine checkup. Does your company have experience with CARC exposures? This is all new to me and right now I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with this whole VA claims process and I’m also upset that I was put through this. I also recently learned that roughly 1,400 Dutch workers in the Netherlands were also injured by painting US military vehicles around the same time that I was doing it in Germany. (See www.dw.com/en/dutch-military-staff-awaits-compensation-in-toxic-paint-case/a-18250624

I was a flightline tech, the constant jet noise was crazy. My ears have been ringing as long as I can remember. After my VA hearing exam the Dr. informed me I have the exact hearing loss exhibited by personal exposed to jet noise. VA gave me a speaker equipped pillow and a sound machine. Helps a bit but I hear ringing constantly, times at night it makes me crazy. Time to file, I have a 70% rating now due to other issues, blown out knee and shoulder.

Got a question . I filed for Tinnitus with the VA a few months ago. I was a Navy Builder (BU) in the Seabees in the late 80's. BU is on the Navy's list of presumed Ear damage MOS's . I had an incident in 1989 and I twice tried to report my ear damage and was told not to. I was told that if I pursued it there could be problems and discipline issues for myself and 2 NCO's that were supposed to be in charge. FYI the issue was that there was almost never any real supervision. So I withdrew my attempts at reporting my incident. So I recently filed for Tinnitus . I only filed for Tinnitus. So I sent my DD 214s along with my discharge paperwork , I also sent my civilian medical Doctor paperwork that included a Nexus letter saying that my Tinnitus was directly caused by my incident that happened while on Active duty and also they sent tons of medical paperwork regarding past ear exams. So i created an online VA account and recently they sent me a note saying that they may not send me for a medical exam and that they make a decision soon. Does that make any sense ?? Any advise or opinions would ne greatly appreciated by anyone Please. Thank you

I was 13B and then 13M for Desert Storm and was denied twice for everything including tinnitus. Just found out about the Pact Act, and filed it just before the deadline, on August 3. I have chronic sinusitis with polyps in my record, hopefully, they can get my sleep apnea as secondary. Have an audiology appt tomorrow and a psych appt on October 20. And I was also in 2 wrecks, 1 on base (Ft. Sill) and one in Iraq, as well as a submersion heater blowing up in my face. Burnt my mustache, eyebrows, eyelashes, and about half the hair on my head. @@mkultravibes7763 well know that you can file on your own or with a VSO all for free. Im sure these guys are great and definitely swamped because of how good they are. But i would reserve them for appeals or more complicated situations.

Correct. There are several free services available for filing claims. We give many different resources for that on our website, but we are here for veterans who have been continuously denied by the VA, and we have expert claims coaches ready to help through the entire process via phone and online. We ensure your claim is filed correctly. This wins claims. Our organization is also made up of a large of community of veterans and we're happy to pay them for their hard work.

Independent nexus letter required or recommended?
@VAClaimsInsider
@VAClaimsInsider Жыл бұрын
A Nexus Letter is never required; however, here’s 3 reasons why a veteran might want to get one. If your disability was diagnosed during service, and it’s in your military medical records (Service Treatment Records), you probably don’t need a Nexus Letter. Why? Because you have medical evidence that the disability existed during your military service. However, you still need to ensure your disability symptoms are properly documented in medical records. If they aren’t: GET YOUR BUTT TO THE DOCTOR! If your disability was not diagnosed during service or if there are no documented symptoms in your military medical records, you probably do need a Nexus Letter. Why? Because you don’t have medical evidence that the disability existed during service. If you’re attempting to service connect a previously denied VA claim or you’re trying to file for secondary service connection, a Nexus Letter is highly recommended. Why? Because you need a powerful argument to overcome a previous VA claim denial (tip the scales in your favor). In addition, secondary service connection requires Medical Nexus Evidence that your new disability is “proximately due to” or “aggravated by” a current service-connected disability. For example, Sleep Apnea secondary to PTSD.

I have a c&p exam tomorrow for tinnitus. I just came across this. I've been out of the usmc infantry for 15 years. I've had tinnitus that entire time and still but I was originally denied back when I got out. I was in for two years and had a lot of training on active duty but never deployed. I was medically separated due to a leg injury. I'm wondering if my time in service with no combat is what is holding me back even though I do have tinnitus that originated during training?
