Are You Ready for Hurricane Season? Essential Tips to Stay Safe!

With forecasters predicting an extremely active Atlantic hurricane season, Commissioner Lesley Briones provides tips to keep your family safe.
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. The National Weather Service predicts above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean this year. Predictions indicate a range of 17-25 total named storms, with 8-13 being forecast to evolve into hurricanes, including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (category 3, 4, or 5).
Scientists with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration say the above average activity is due to near-record warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic, La Nina conditions in the Pacific, reduced Atlantic trade winds, and less wind shear.
