I think not only in Sweden but everywhere. My last name is also connected to nature. I'm from Europe, so definitely at least on the old continent.

But it came from a name of village. But the village name came from nature.
@heartoflinnea21313 жыл бұрын
@@mariclaire608 Well, it's fully possible that this is common outside of Sweden too, but I don't have much experience with how common "foreign" last names are abroad I've heard that nature last names aren't a thing outside Sweden, but of course that doesn't mean what I've heard is true XD Villages named after nature isn't very common... although it's not uncommon for them to have names referring to the nature around it and it varies by area Like in my area the suffix -ryd, an old, now unused word meaning clearing, is common
@mariclaire6083 жыл бұрын
Well here in Czech republic it's definitely a thing. Only in my year in high school I knew quite a lot people with their names from birds, trees (as I do throught the village) and other things. I always thought that it's quite common in other languages too but now that I think about it more, I don't recall many english last names created in this way. So maybe it's a thing here and in Sweden.
@mariclaire6083 жыл бұрын
We have really quite interesting names of towns and villages here that came from every possible area. Quite a few of them mainly near the borders came from german names of the places. Some of them from occupations, some of them from nature - for example from trees but in a little bit changed way. I could really talk about this for a long time because some places have funny names even for us locals. Some places have names combined from more than one word and sometimes the meanings are hillarious. And so are some of oir last names ( For example "Strašrybková" means that she's "scarying fishes" or literally "scare fishes" as an order. There is also "Rádsetoulal" which means literally "He liked to wander." And it's really a complete sentence in one last name, which is amazing. But only 16 people in whole republic has the male form of this. )

I know 4 months is a long ass time to come back and comment but I just found this out and had to share this with you. My best friend was researching her family tree online through obituaries and just for shits and gigs decided to trace back my family as well. Being that my broke ass family from Cajun country has been dirt poor for the last 200 years or so I didn't expect her to find much. Boy was I WRONG!!! She was able to trace back one ancestor all the way back to 1600 through my grandpa on my mother's side. Not only did she and I share this ancestor (yay we're like 11th cousins or something!!) but I typed his name into Google in hopes that I could find out just what he could've possibly did for a living only to find out that this ancestor, who is my 10x great-grandfather, was a baron who helped establish the Acadian territories in Canada (where Cajun's came from) and was one of the first settlers there. Philippe Mius d'Entremont, 1st Baron of Pobomcoup. In 8th grade I took Louisiana history, all throughout my years in school we'd have speakers come to school to discuss Cajun history, this man's name NEVER came up!

Really? Ok then, it isn't very long but sure :) It all started when everybody in our clan began to die off from battles and illness, causing in only a single baby girl left in our bloodline. The maids took care of her because they were loyal and all, and of course wanted to keep the clan going. Everything was going fine until one night someone came and stole that little girl (They are the Cambels I believe) and they raised her. Once she was of age they married her to their prince and so now what was ours is theirs. That's all, and though it is frustrating that we could own a castle museum, I let it go a while back ^v^
