We’ve all played solos with fast passages that we’ve rushed through. It’s more obvious when we perform with a piano accompanist and have to hold that last note longer that we should to let the piano catch up.

So, how do you learn not to rush? Beyond just using a metronome, here’s some ideas for learning not to rush. Things like changing the articulation, changing the rhythm, playing it backwards, playing it all in triplets, and yes, using a metronome.

Hi Angela, The Flute FINALLY arrived !!!, what a difference, still LOTS of practice on my part to make it "Sing like an Angel" :-) So true what you're explaining in this video, for Lent we're preparing "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name" (the long version, not the one in the Hymnals), and in the third measure from the beginning, there's a short 16 note pattern that lasts the last two beats, as soon as I see the 16 notes I just freak out, but no ... as you very well state, one must practice slow (very slow) let the fingers memorize those movements and THEN speed it up to Tempo. Thank you so much for all your videos/advice/teachings, they are of such great help, they truly are, God Bless
