I loved listening to this stuff growing up . Id love to see guitars and a new twist on this genre come back into popularity.

Just writing this as I start to watch the video I don't think I'm ever growing out of SHIT. I'll be the old man yelling at zoomers in my front porch, I don't care Edit after watching: I have no idea what the fuck you said in this video. I still like my shit God bless

I’ve had a very similar musical trajectory. Three really good nu metal bands/albums that were under the radar but extremely high quality are Onesidezero “Is This Room Getting Smaller”, Pulse Ultra “Headspace” and Apex Theory “Topsy-Turvy”. I think these albums are great examples of maturity within the genre.

Here's the thing with Nu metal, it's a good entry into Metal, there are some cool songs here and there it has some cool riffs here and there, the problem is, the riffs are very much oversimplified and especially the song structures. I go back and listen to alot of the nu metal albums I loved before and now, I have the nostalgia but it's more like I only like bits and pieces, so I guess it hasn't aged well.. maybe if they had expanded the genre and maybe put some solo's in there or more complex structures it definetly could have held its place

You're right about nu metal riff. What I've noticed is even though some of the bands kinda sound different but at the same time time they all sound the same and that same formula structure. Once in awhile I'll listen to some nu metal and it hits me with nostalgia brings me back to memory lane with all that familiarity of my teen hood listening to nu metal especially during my summer breaks. If nu metal was more like thrash metal with great riffs and guitar solos, it might of aged well but it didn't. The same goes for melodic metalcore and early deathcore. I've long moved on into real metal genres.

Spotify Wrapped figured nu-metal was my #1 genre in 2021. I don't think that's true (twas the year of Spiritbox), but it shows the genre still has a presence, albeit algorithmic. Sidenote: I saw you, Adema.

Looking at Spotify Wrapped myself, Nu Metal was, also, my #1 Most Listened To Genre.

Only 3 things embarrass me: listening to the first albums of Nu Metal bands, KoRn’s bass sound and the 80’s. 😂😂😂

Deftones is my only favourite Nu Metal band. I was far more fond of the emo/metalcore/death metal scene that came next. The whole nu metal sound (it revolved around USA & the same clanging noises) and baggy clothes fashion made me cringe when I was 8 years old, despite what came next with My Chem, A7X & Architects. Having said that, my emo/metal phase hasn't ended.

All metal can have amazing moments, while also being deeply cringe. Nu metal is cool.
