I always had one in my tanks. I also only had 55L tanks. You give fish enough room and they tend to get along better.

Mine is out quite a lot and very active, I just wish I could get hold of the ornatus pictus where I am, that's the best looking one in my opinion!

Pictus catfish are also predatory. Any fish they can fit in their mouths are eaten. Plus they also get big. They can easily eat neon/cardinal/glolite tetras, cherry barbs, danios, rasboras, guppies, etc at that size.

Yes they are, I keep mine stuffed so luckily I have lost any small fish

I have two in my 125 and they really hate each other. They have separate spots in the tank and anytime they cross paths, they go at it.

I had three of these back then in my South american cichlid tank. Mine showed all the zime. I had plants rocks and logs in the back and an open sandy "arena" in the front. They always hung out there, circling around. But mine had bigger spots. Maybe a different species of pictus.

@@lkapitan8232 Maybe some floating plants help too. I had these really huge valisneria plants, their leaves got so long that they floated on the water surfave, blocking off some of the light.

You gave me a great idea. I cut the power to the LED light by 50% so the tank was very dim. Within minutes they were shooting all over the tank. They really do not like light. Thanks.

They fight because they dont have enough space to hide. Drop another log or something like. I had 5 of them In my large community tank

That is a 4 foot, 75 gallon tank and has 2 large ornaments, but they prefer to stay all together under just one.

@@lkapitan8232 just the one that comed with marineland 60 gallon. He’s out all the time.. What I never see is the pleco, maybe a sighting every 6 months or so🤷🏻‍♂️

@@fd4340I've never had a pleco, but every one I've ever seen is not moving, just laying around or stuck to the glass, they do not seem interesting to me. Do you like them?

@@lkapitan8232 it’s really a non entity cause I never see it. I’m amazed it’s still alive because the pictus eats all the algae wafers I put in the tank.I also have lots of hiding places so I’m sure that’s part of it.

I like my catfish small and docile I do however love the variatus platies though.

I'm happy I just got rid of my two. I learned that these fish aren't for me. Swim way to fast and mess the substrate up. Also always hiding

Hate this fish, killed off every one of my other aquarium fish until I figured out what was going on and caught him in the act.

They are a schooling fish so I would not have less than six and places for them to hide. Good luck.
