Four and a half years ago at age 67 I took the MSF course and then bought my first motorcycle. Today, three bikes later and at 72 years old, I have 75,000 miles under my belt and am having fun as a motorcyclist.

I taught a man named Everett who was 82. He did well and passed. A few weeks later I taught his son and grandson! Found out that they were all planning a cross country trip. The thought of 3 generations riding together swelled my heart!

I started at 62, two years ago. As an older woman, I would say that a lighter, smaller bike helps a lot. Any problems I had were linked to my fear of not controlling a heavy bike. Enjoy the ride, choose a bike that doesn't frighten you and ride to please yourself, not to impress others.

I started at 56 and am now 60. I started on a 150cc Honda scooter. A wonderful choice and a bike I still love for short beats around town. From banking to the farmer's market. As an older woman I found the scooter light and learned cornering on one without having to think about shifting. I found this channel and practiced all the time. I now ride a 900cc Triumph to work but had I not started on that scooter I suspect I would have scared myself and given up. And I practice on the Triumph all the time. I appreciate the scooter so much now that I ride a motorcycle. They're different. One is not better but serve different functions. Two wheels is two wheels = a blast. I think you are spot on. Most people run out and do get the cool bike. Not the learn-on bike. What's nice about the scooter is generally the throttle won't get you in speed trouble. I now practice on the Triumph as well, all the time. But for me, had I bought the Triumph first I think I would have given up. And as I age and the Triumph starts to feel heavy, I may give that up but I see no reason why I cannot ride that little scoot into antiquity.

gus vaci Sorry I just no saw your comment . I’m riding a Suzuki GSX1250FA. (Formerly known as the Bandit) It has been a good machine for me. It is definitely not a beginner bike. It’s quick, agile, fun, and mechanically bullet proof, reliable as a hammer. However it’s top heavy compared to a cruiser, oe something like a BMW boxer, and can feel like work after a long day in the saddle. I’m actually thinking of changing to something lower and lighter, perhaps in the 800 class. It sounds like you could easily manage a 1300 class bike such as the FJR, which is a fantastic machine. I’m about your size, probably not as athletic. (Age do make a difference; I still ride well as long as I’m rested, but tend to tire earlier than I used to. Good luck in your search for a bike. I bought my first motorcycle In 2013. It is a Honda XR650L. I was 58 years old when I bought it and I had never ridden a motorcycle before. Since then I have ridden it Over 25 thousand miles. In April of 2019 I returned to the U.S. after a 3,000 mile round trip through Mexico. I hope to do it again soon. I hope this comment will encourage someone to get out there and ride!!! Thank you!!!

After 22 years as a nurse on a Trauma-Surgical ICU, I started late, at 50, and I am loving it, and I did it right. Took classes, practiced, watch blogs like this one, and I drive within my means. Its been about two years now and going great. The benefit of starting late was that I had 30+ years driving a car, and that gave me an edge on road skills, and anticipating how drivers behave. What I did learn from my 22 years on the ICU, was that catastrophic injuries and fatal bike accidents had one major element in common: youth. The over whelming majority of the horrible injuries and deaths I have seen had a common denominator of someone young, immature, and riding beyond their skills. I have seen older riders, but more often than not it wasn't their fault and it was related to uncontrollable events like someone running a red light - that's just bad luck. Starting late I have the benefit of a developed frontal lobe which reminds me to be cautious, educated, astute to my abilities and giving deference to my limitations. Its been wonderful, even though my ICU colleagues still give me a hard time. I appreciate your videos.

Same thing here - started at 53 and my 39 years as a driver have allowed me to anticipate the impatience and laziness that make car drivers of all ages (myself included, before) a danger to cyclists and bikers. I'm also well aware of my limitations (skill, experience, comfort) and work within them, pushing slowly and gently to increase them. Be safe and have fun!

hello fellow nurse; tell ur colleagues to eat our dust lol. u are right on all counts. decades of driving defensively lend to riding defensively. it's the young riders i see zooming by at 100+ and all i can picture is a mass of compound fractures in the making. the only older rider i knew that rode like that was a vietnam vet with a death wish.

69 now, and started as well at 55 or 56 when I was a empty nester. Never rode before, took a one day course with my son in law, who since stopped riding (250 Rebel lent by the course). Learned the mechanics but really learned by studying and school of hard knocks. I watch Mc Rider a lot (really appreciate what you do). I ride with a 78 year old and his son in law 45. In ‘17 we rode to Sturgis from Kingston NY. I’m so glad we did this, great experience and memories. I not sure I will be able to ride at 78, we’ll see. He’s a great rider. We have Ultra Classics. My first and only other bike was a Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 which I still have.

When I was about to turn 70, I decided that I would do one of two things I had never done before: get married or learn to ride a motorcycle. The question was, which of these two was likely to kill me first. All of my friends agreed that for my own physical safety and peace of mind I should get the motorcycle. So I took the MSR course, got my license, and bought a new T100 Bonneville. I've only put 18k on it (mostly around town) in 5 years but I hope to ride it forever. My Euro moto club is mostly crowding 70, but they have had long years of experience. Everything you say about self-assessment is correct, but if you're not fit to ride, the road will let you know.

Spot on. I started riding at age 58. Took the MSF class and the instructor said my skills were "solid". I quickly found out that didn't mean "good" because I promptly tipped my 1st bigger bike over in a fairly busy intersection. I retreated to a good size parking lot for 3 months of slow speed practice. Best thing I could have done. Regardless of the age, you still have to develop the skills.

Very true, many riders have a false sense of security if they do well in a MSF class. It is a whole other world out there when you start riding on the street.

Exactly! I rode for a few years and took a 20 year break, and the first thing I did was take the beginning class. I also found out quickly that I was not ready for twisties, that required different skills that you don’t get going on nice straight freeways and streets. I found a good group, practiced with them, and took an advanced class that helped me develop confidence in corners.

I started riding 6 months ago at 57. As I need a car for work, I am a casual rider, mainly riding on weekends. I have developed a routine that every time I take the bike out, the first 15 to 20 minute is spent in the carpark of the local community centre practicing my slow speed skills then I set out on my road ride to where ever it is I'm planing to go. I have found that this routine work well for me.

I’m 72 and I love motorcycling. I presently own and ride one 1984 Harley Ironhead and a 500 Enfield. I started riding when I was 16, I have owned over 20 bikes over the years, and apart from a couple of accidents (Non-fatal, obviously!) I’ve loved every second in the saddle. Go for it! Just be aware of your limitations, and that everyone else on the road is possibly out to kill you, and you’ll be just fine!🇬🇧

Started on Yamaha virago 400 then triumph street triple 675 around Australia and in Sydney peak hour traffic also rode a triumph thunderbird 1700cc through south west USA. I've wanted to ride since I was 16 and now I'm a 67 year old woman. I started riding last year on a Can-Am Spyder. The three wheeler Spyder was easier than the two wheeler. Made the trip to Daytona Bike Week on it before they shut everything down. Best time ever! Took the two wheeler course twice and quit on the third day both times. Too much to learn and the 500cc HD bike was heavy, I couldn't grasp the clutch, etc. Took the three wheeler course in between and passed it and bought the Spyder F3T the next week. Last week I bought a 2020 Harley Davidson Freewheeler Trike, stiletto red. Pretty and awesome. It's the best bike for me at this time in my life and I'm riding it, not far yet mind you, but I'm finally riding a motorcycle.

I successfully completed the MSF course in May of last year, a few weeks after my 70th birthday. A physically and mentally demanding three days. I bought a CRF250l. Had never sat on a moto before the course. Spent last summer practice, practice, practice slow speed maneuvers in a large empty parking lot, plus some longer rides on local country roads with little traffic. I have no interest in or need for urban riding. This summer I plan to seek out some dirt roads. Riding a moto is something I have day-dreamed about my entire adult life but never pursued because I felt (rightly or wrongly) that familial and professional responsibilities precluded accepting the risk. Now retired and kids long gone, I feel like I am the only one exposed to the risk. My sons were astonished when they learned what I was doing and their very first question was "is Mom ok with this" to which I truthfully responded that she is encouraging me...that led to some snide remarks about how I should check to see if there have been any recent increases in my life insurance coverage! Anyway, my dream and I am chasing it. How I ride and where I ride, I am no threat to anyone else on the road but me. Besides, I've got to keep working on my skill-set so that when international travel restrictions permit, I'll be ready for that three week dual sport trip through Patagonia. Cheers

Good for you William. Mike here in Illinois USA. At 71 and 6' 7" just started acquiring a couple of scooters, a BMW G310 GS used motorcycle for learning to shift and ordering a high end adventure bike. Made 12 changes and mods to the 310 to fit my frame etc. I'm looking forward to developing the skills and enjoy something that in my professional career with kids never had the permission or the money. Thankfully now I have both but it's a humbling experience as we've developed many other skills over our lives but not this one in our case. Enjoy and keep going!

Last November, at age 67, I decided I decided to act on something I really wanted when I was a kid, a Triumph Bonneville. So I rolled over to the Triumph store and after a couple of visits found the one I liked, a T120 Black, and bought it. I took the MSR course a couple of weeks later...aced the written and got a 95 on the practical. The bike only has about 1200 miles on it now, winter did get in the way a bit, but I love riding. Luckily I am in pretty good shape, have good motor skills, I was a helicopter pilot in the Army, and have an enthusiastic approach to things. I'll probably sell it as soon as I feel I am loosing my edge but in the meantime...having a hell of a lot of fun riding for fun on nice days. I still have the brain and attitude of of that kid who wanted a Bonny...and the smarts and experience of a guy who's been around a few times.

I started riding two years ago at age 58. My wife thinks it's my mid-life crisis. Regardless, I agree with the others who say that it is often your state of mind. Of course, you have some physical challenges, but if they're not an impediment, then go for it. Being open to learning I think is a key attribute. I've learned tons practicing -- using the field guide -- watching Kevin, Motojitsu, and Jerry Palladino. I've also read tons. Riding is something I will keep doing until they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars! Thanks Kevin.

Bought my first bike, a vtx 1300, at age 68 and still riding at 75. Took the basic riding course which helped me a great deal. Ride with family on road trips as much as we can and love every minute of it.

I’m currently taking my motorcycle license at age 30. And I’m glad that I didn’t do it at 18. I feel way more confident taking driving lessons on a motorcycle now than I did in a car at 18 years old. This is what driving experience gets you. It allows you to put more focus on operating the motorcycle and less on tackling different scenarios on the road.

Holy Cow! I just realized I've been riding for 38 years! But there was a 14 year stent where I was unable to ride due to breaking my back in two places. So....that 14 year break gave me time to forget my abilities. But...When I hopped on the Motorcycle, there wasn't a thing that was missing other than a little more hair and the presence of a little more gray. Since starting back up riding, my caution and confidence are rock solid in their respective places as well as the respect of the machine I'm controlling. I've had a number of close calls since getting back on the horse thanks to irresponsible 4 wheel motorists. But anticipating their lack of respect and knowledge all came back like breathing. My Grandfather started riding at 69 years old and rode until his death at 86. He loved every minute of riding. He rigged a 5 gallon bucked on the back of his Honda 750 so he could ride his bike to go fishing. He had 26 grand children of which I am the oldest and the only one who rides. I started at 12 on a Honda cub. I went off to college in 1971 and bought a Honda 305 scrambler. I have been riding now for 55 years. I have owned 4 Honda's, a Suzuki GXSR 600, a Kawasaki Ninja 300 and 7 Harley Davidson's. I currently ride a 2014 HD Street Glide Special and the Ninja 300. I live in SW Florida, I'm 67 years old and ride everyday. My goal is to make that 86 year old mark!

I started riding when I was 13. My older brother had a Honda CB100 & I was thrilled just to kick start it (remember kick starters?). One day at his girlfriend's house as we were about to leave, I started the bike and sat waiting. When he took too long, I squeezed in the clutch and put it in 1st gear with a click. He looked at me & and gave the "nod of approval". I started easing out on the clutch (very stiff) when it snapped from my fingers. The front wheel came up, we took off and landed in a rose bush - bike on the ground. Brother calmly turned off the key and helped me (then the bike) to an upright position. I was ashamed of the fool I made of myself. My head hung low, my brother said goodbye to his lady and down the road we went (with him driving, of course). At the very 1st intersection, my brother stopped, put the bike in neutral and got off. "Get up front and drive!" he said. "But I just wrecked your bike!" was my reply. "Drive or walk!!" (my brother took NO crap from me). As it was over 5 miles home, I did as instructed and drove home like a pro! I've been riding ever since that day. These days, he has a 2011 Goldwing and I have an '04 Harley FXDL - we STILL take weekend rides together.

Well said, Kevin. I started on a MoPed back in 1959 at age 14. Two years and 6K miles later I moved on to 4 wheels. After 59 years, In 2012 I bought a 300cc Vespa and after another 6K miles bought my first Harley. Now, 4 Harleys later and a cumulative 100 thousand miles, I love my 2018 Limited CVO and my 76th birthday is on the horizon. I watch your weekly videos without fail. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

Very nice!, I live in Palm Beach county and just bought a RE Himalaya dual purpose bike. I have ridden off and on since I was 20, but most enduro or off road. I’m glad FL requires the motorcycle endorsement and skills test. Riding in traffic requires constant situational awareness. Off road I’m pretty sure I know what tree is going do!! I’m 70, in good shape and I’m looking forward to riding again !

I started riding when I was 16, I am 72 now. Rode to Sturgis when I was 69 with my son. Was a great trip and we put 7500 miles on our bikes. I have a friend, owner of the local HD dealership that is 87 and he still rides his bike. Age is not a factor but condition of the old body is. Be safe and keep riding.

I am 84 and bought a M/bike in March 2020 in the UK. I was a Dispatch Rider in 1955 in the Royal Signals, once on the bike again all my army training came back to me again which was on road/off road skills on a BSA 500. Having said that, you are never too old to learn new things.

Got my license in 1994 when 17. Got my first bike last year (2019). And I'm seriously glad because at 43 I had 25 years of life experience, leveled head and whole different approach to riding, risks and... life compared to my 17-year old self. So that riding gap, which I was cursing here and then over those 25 years, might have saved my life. That and the fact that I re-took the complete European motorcycle license course in 2018.

Love your training videos. The year was 1982, I rode my Honda 650 from Oregon to Michigan, it was a fantastic adventure. Sold the Honda a year later. At age 64 a close friend of mine talked me into buying a motorcycle so we could travel with our wives around the northwest. Loving adventure, I purchased a new Triumph xc800 dual sport and took a new rider's training course. At age 65 my friend suggested that we take the challenge to become members of the Iron Butt Association. We departed from Washington State and drove to Las Vegas. 1130 miles in 22:27 minutes. Turning 67 my friend and I decided to go off road and ride the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route. The trail is about 650 miles. The ride was amazing for about 250 when my friend hit a large rock, fell over and broke his leg. We still ride together but not as often, we are both 71 years old and I'm recovering from cancer surgery. There is nothing to compare with traveling on a motorcycle.

I find there there are many similarities to riding a bike and motorcycle - I always assume I am invisible to cars, including at intersections and driveways, putting your left foot down, countersteering, braking, hand signals, and in case I didn’t say it before, enough : always assume your invisible. I drove a manual car. I fell in love when I took the class - put 3,000 miles my first year, some of these in parking lots! I hope to ride for many more years and appreciate the advice on this channel. Thank you.

I started riding 12 weeks ago. I'm 54. I took the MSF Basic Rider class, got my permit (not my endorsement). I'm a big guy - 6'8" - and struggled with the little KLX they gave me to ride (better than the Groms the others had to ride!). One day of practice wasn't enough for me. I then picked up a used VStrom 650, and have been practicing in parking lots and local roads since then. The COVID-19 shutdown has actually helped, as the roads and parking lots have been nearly empty - a great time to practice. I've ridden 1000 miles since the class, mostly from hours in parking lots, and a bunch of short trips around the area. At 54, I have nothing to prove, know my limits, could afford full gear, and know that my first priority is safety and getting home intact. But, I'm loving riding, and am glad MCRider and other KZbinrs are out there to help us all learn and improve.

I was two months beyond my 70th birthday when I first rode on any kind of MC. First time was in the community college MC safety class which utilized little Honda Rebels. Advised by a Harley owner friend to not buy a "big bike" right away (especially since I reside in the mountains of western VA) I purchased a used Honda Rebel essentially identical to the bikes used in the safety class a week or so after completing the class. Although I had a ball learning to ride it in the mountains, I quickly decided I need a "real" bike. Three months and 2500 miles later i purchased a new 2014 Street Glide Special (although i really wanted a Road King) and have loved riding ever since.

I'm 67 and a close friend is 73. We've both been riding since our teenage years and only 6 years ago started touring across the lower 48, with only 4 states to go. No trailering, only riding! We recognize that age is a factor that can affect so many of the skills required of safe motorcycling, but also recognize that everyone ages differently. We've made a "pact" with each other that if either of us starts to see the other declining in any of the skills necessary to continue to ride safely to speak up.

Rode a Yamaha 650 for a few years in my mid 20’s. Just bought a Triumph Bonneville T100 at age 68. Loving it and, while MSF classes are cancelled due to pandemic, I’ve used online resources and plenty of empty shopping center parking lots to compensate. Now at 60 and loving retirement, I have a 2018 Gold Wing. Ten years ago at the age of 59 I bought a 500cc Honda Intercepter. The only previous experience I had was as a teenager with a cumulative of a few hours riding. The Honda was light and easy to handle, but it was worn out and finally after a few weeks of breakdowns I parked it. Fast forward to today: I Bought a 2005 BMW R1200RT; good condition, no maintenance problems, wonderful on the road, I really enjoy it but, oh boy! It’s sooo hard to control from a stop and at parking speeds. Every time I have to take off from a T junction it’s a challenge... So here goes, I’ve decided to do ALL your basic low-speed maneuvering classes.. Wish me luck, I’ll be in touch later.

I just started riding as well at 49. Took the MSF course last December. Due to the fact that I could only make this one large (approved) purchase and factoring in my needs for cargo space for duty gear, I purchased a Street Glide. I ride daily and I'm 7000 miles in. I took some flak from some friends for getting such a large first bike, but I practiced a lot and I love it. Don't think you can't ride a big bike as your first. I was able to get one of my sons into riding as well. He loves it and we ride together often, makes for great memories.

I have learnt that a motorcyclist 'never has the right of way' and is completely invisible to everyone.

Kevin, I was 63 years old when I bought my first bike, 2016 HD sportster in October. Took the MSF class in April 2017, prior to that the last time I rode a bike was when I was about 35 years old and it was a Honda 550 of my brother’s that he let me ride for about 3 times in my life for a short distance. After the class I continued (and still do) go to parking lots and practice, practices. Taking the class was a huge help for sure but was only the beginning. I ride every day as much as I possibly can but difficult at times living in northern Indiana where the weather is a factor. Love your videos as I learn something from them each time. Thank You.

About a year ago, at 57, I took the new rider course at a local dealership and began my love affair with riding. I've ridden a lot over the last year and I realize I still have a lot to learn...but repetition and getting out there and riding in different conditions and different kinds of roads, etc continue to build my skills and confidence. The new rider course was key in giving me basic and critical techniques to learn to ride, and most importantly, to ride safely. So...you are not too old to start if you have the determination and will to do it.

I had a near “dump the borrowed motorcycle in the river” experience as a teenager. (I knew nothing about the need to “counter-steer”....Enough said). Since then I have been afraid of motorcycles even to the point of not riding as a passenger. A couple of years ago at age 58 I decided that I “had” to learn how to ride a motorcycle out of sheer economics. I was spending $400 per month on gasoline to commute to and from work in my Jeep (5.X liter engine). So I bought a Honda Rebel 250 to learn on and watched your (and others) channel and practiced on an abandoned tennis court. At the time there was a 6 month waiting list to enroll for the motorcycle courses offered in my area. So thanks mainly to your channel and my willingness to learn and practice, I became a MC Rider at age 58. I wish I had overcome my fear back when I was a teenager as I absolutely love riding my 2nd motorcycle ... (Kawasaki Vulcan 900). Thanks for all that you do and for this great resource!

I started at 65 on a punched out KLX250s. Now approaching 68 and I ride almost every day. My only crashes have been on single track into the bushes. I gear up like Iron Man, keep my Spidey Sense on high when on the street, stay fit and practice basic skills. 30+ years of off road bicycling really helps (looking where I want to go, balancing front/rear braking, little fear of traction loss, counterbalancing in low speed u-turns and that momentum is my friend). It did take a while to fully appreciate how 300lbs on two wheels feels compared to 30lbs on two wheels when it's not moving. heh. I hope/plan to ride for many years to come, starting with today.

In Atlanta, the bike lanes are treacherous with frequent obstacles, grates set in the wrong direction, cars parked in the bike lanes, and notoriously bad and hostile drivers. I take the most direct route to bicycle dedicated, car free paths. Even then, the paths are populated with dog walkers, children wobbling on tiny bikes, hot dogging road racers training in spandex, skate boarders, electric scooters and electric "bicyclists" on their way to work and/or the bar. There are precious few rules to dictate behavior, and the norms of polite mutual useage are typically ignored. Then consider riding a bicycle in tank top and shorts, wearing a helmet that resembles a toy, sharing lanes with 3000 lbs of glass, plastic and steel, operated by an anxious retail clerk on their phone, consulting a nav app... it just seems way more fraught than when I'm on the DR, with much better options for avoidance, laws that govern behavior and high viz protective gear, just in case.

Two years ago I brought a little brand new red Honda CT125 trail bike to my parents farm in east Texas. It was originally intended for my daughter to ride. As soon as Dad, who was 83 at the time, seen it he commented on what a pretty bike it is. We got it out of the truck. He’s never ridden a motorcycle before. He took a few minutes to figure out how to operate it, then he took off riding. He only rides around the farm. But, in the first year he put 1500 miles on it. It’s brought a lot of joy to his life, and helped improve his coordination. Hopefully someone like him will see this comment and be inspired to do the same.

I grew up riding mini bikes, bought a Yamaha 250 dirt bike at 16. Sold it when I went to college an didn't ride for the next 40 years. Sad, I know. Now at 59 I decided it was now or never, so I signed up for BRC for the last weekend in May. But here is the lesson for all new riders. I jumped the gun, bought a V-Strom 650 and couldn't resist taking it out on my dead-end street. After all..I was a good rider 40 years ago...right? After a few successful outings up and down the street, last Tuesday I was practicing again. This time just slowspeed u-turns in the driveway and went over. I landed on my left shoulder and broke my collarbone. Now I'll have to put off riding for 3 months while I recuperate. Lesson learned! Take the training course first!

like mcrider says, the brc is just BASIC; ur ready to practice no faster than 20 mph. it's very bare bones. u could very well have had the fall anyway; i've torn each rotator cuff in the last six months; i was off the bike one or two weeks max. it just required some technique changes to compensate on turns. i practice taking turns with one hand [at a time] so if i hurt one again or go for the surgical repair, my muscles are strong enough to compensate.

I rode dirt bikes in early 60s. Rode a friends older Harley once at 14 in late 50s. My heart would yearn after the sound of a Harley going down the highway all my life. Stopped flying commercially at 51, stopped driving commercially at 75. Got my first HD at 70, I'm good for at least a couple years. Highly recommend anyone getting good training. I had rode rental and borrowed bikes and thought I knew how. Learned more the first 10 min than I ever knew. Loud and Proud.

I returned to riding after a 17 year lay off; I was skilled. I purchased a HD that weighed way more than I thought (1100 lbs). I practiced in a parking lot, took it out on the road, and it was great. Went to park on an incline, and gliding backward just like I used to on my 850, slight movement of the front fork and over I went. Tried to hold it up, and stressed several muscles in my left leg. Having correct and heavy duty boots saved my left ankle. I learned to ride by the book, and had some talent. Beyond the physical pain, felt a big ego let down. Only got it back when a way more experienced rider, chimed in that if you ain't dropped one, you're either lying or never road much. I don't really like the 'forward controls', and when my current beast comes to a stop, anywhere, you better have some plan to deal with the weight.

Kevin, I am 75, and still ride my Harley each day if I can.. I find my rides, now filled with, doing practice in any parking lot I can find... Left and right figure eights, etc.. If you want to ride at my age, you must get out there and do it... I have been riding big bikes, mostly Sporters, Have fxr, and fxdl bagger now.. Had a 68 sport for my first bike, in 1968. In my teens and later on, I rode motorcycles. Then I gave up riding for nearly 40 years but often felt the urge to "get back in the wind". I finally decided to get back on two wheels and took a motorcycle riding course and passed; I was 73 at the time. I bought myself a used 1999 Goldwing weighing over 825 pounds and took to the road, very cautiously to be sure! After a few thousand miles I overcame my initial fears with handling this monster which on the open road transformed into a beautiful machine that gobbles up the miles in comfort. My love for this 6 cylinder machine then led me to purchase a Valkyrie which as the same power plant as the Goldwing but weighs quite a bit less and is easier to maneuver . So at 75, I have two motorcycles and love being "in the wind" again!

I just went on ride with a variety of other motorcycles and rider ages. I'm 68 and ride an HD Road King. At the end of the ride, several "millennials" came over and were mystified at how the big HD touring bike could keep up and even pass their "superbikes" on twisty mountain roads. Another contemporary of mine came up to say that rider age and high tech superbikes are no substitute for focus and determination. Not sure about that, but I do approach riding a motorcycle as a skill and sport, not just to impress others. I'm old but take riding seriously. Plus the Road King is a hell of a great machine.

I am in good shape for but don't have the strength to handle my 1994 Goldwing so I downsize to 1997 1100 shadow classic abought 350 lb. difference my fellow Wing riders kid me for my down sizing so I told them I would rather downsize the eat the pavement. I take riding refresher courses every 5 years just to stay on top of new ways to sharpen my skills. Hej Kevin, here in Denmark you are not allowed on the road on a mc until you have been on a government regulated course of minimum 53 lessons of 45 minutes, 29 theory, 4 around the cones, emergency braking, counter steering ect and the rest on the road, max 3 riders under supervision, I done all this in 2018 and eventually passed my test and got my mc licence a few days before my 76th birthday, one of the happiest days of my life, I had allready bought a new Yamaha MT07 Tracer which was waiting at home to be ridden, Have got many tips from your videos on how to be a better rider

I'm 68, started riding just ten years ago. Learned early that it was like flying, something I learned40 years ago. "Stay ahead of the airplane" the instructor used to say and, "All pilots have a little voice I the back of their head. All good pilots listen to that little voice". Both traits true for motorcycling too. My only hesitation these days, is I have to work really hard when ATGATT, getting that right leg over the Super Tenere's tank. Once I'm on though, I'm good to go three hours at a time, making miles. Hate to admit it, but I have considered a few times lately, "how much longer can I do this?" It will be a sad day when that little voice says... time to give it up. But, not today. Not today.

In 1967 at 22 years old I returned from Vietnam and immediately purchased my first motorcycle, a 1967 750 cc Norton Atlas. Prior to this I has raced bicycles and continued bicycle racing for another decade. The Norton lead to a racing Yamaha two stroke rocket ship, half a dozen metric street bikes before I finally graduated to Harley Davidson in 1994. My wife went the same route, riding dirt bikes as a kid and street Hondas after we got married in 1968. When I went to Harleys , she did too. In 2000 she bought the 10th Harley Deuce off of the line of first day production, the last 6 digits of the VIN number were 000010. After 15 years on Harleys her legs and ankles went bad and she sold all of her Harleys and went for a new CanAm trike. She walked into the dealer using a walker. Last summer, after several surgeries replacing parts, she tired of the 10 year old trike and sold it, immediately buying another Harley. She realized it was a bad idea when she discovered she had difficulties getting comfortable on the big bike, and last week at 71 years old she sold it to a young lady of only 62. We were long distance tourers, both of us having put hundreds of thousands of miles criss-crossing this country many times, and have worn out half a dozen Harleys, trading them in with 90-110 thousand miles on each of them. Currently I am a Road Guard on Run for the Wall, having run all the way 7 times. Round trip on these trips is 10,000+ miles and 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately this years Run was canceled due to COVID-19, but I am ready for next year when I will be 75.

I started riding when I was 17 years old. Took to the motorcycle like a duck to water. Now I am 72 and having a blast. The first thing I learned was how to ride invisible. Many close calls back then. I live in Ontario Canada and rode to the east coast 4 times, Took my bike all the way up white face mountain and all over the eastern US. Have an old 1100 Virago and am thinking of buying a trail bike to go camping on. Starting to ride was the best move I ever made! Best wishes from Perth Ontario Canada.

I always wanted to ride At 65 I took the course went and got a Triumph Speedmaster. I love every moment of being on the bike. Its never too late to do the thinks you enjoy. Or try new things life is for living not wishing

Definitely. I started riding 18 months ago at age 67. I did ride a Vespa for a year or two 50 years before that, but nothing else in between. Got a car at 17 and that was that for two wheeled transport for the next 50 years. Now got 3 bikes and ride them all as often as possible. I rode all the way through the winter, even when the roads were frosty ( took it very easy then ) I try not to ride in the rain, but sometimes you start out riding when it's dry and then it rains and you just get wet.

Is not about age, is about how your mentally and physically capabilities are, not only for riding a bike but for your daily activities in general. I'm 56 and just started riding , I'm in my 100 percent. I have known men 80's or more years old very strong and doing their daily activities at the 💯

I totally agree with the advice to take a beginner motorcycle safety course. I bought my first motorcycle in my late 20's and taught myself to ride...rode for 4 years. I sold the bike and then didn't buy another one until nearly 40 years later. I started off by taking a beginner motorcycle safety course, even though I had 4 years of experience...and I am so glad I did! I wished I had taken the course 40 years before...I couldn't believe how many simple things I didn't know even after riding for that long! Really basic things like "counter-steering", and "looking in the direction you want to go". It was the best $200 I ever spent in my life. Since then, I have bought a couple of good books on riding motorcycles (I highly recommend "Total Control" by Lee Parks) and I watch the MCRider videos every week. But most importantly, like Kevin always advises - I PRACTICE the skills! I strive to improve my riding skills EVERY single time I ride. Thanks for all your great videos, Kevin!
