Great video! I'm 5'5" and have been riding Gold Wings for 40 years, only touching the ground tippee-toes. Good balance is everything; coming to a stop with the handlebars straight is helpful. Pushing around in the garage is a beast; I've appreciated the addition of reverse in the last couple generations of GWs. ;-)

Love the way she looked around before taking off each time, even in the lot... a lot of guys just glance in the left mirror and hit the throttle. She rides really well considering the size ratio. Still, as a shorter rider myself, I tend to put a bit more stock into the "at least one foot flat on the ground at a complete stop, the other foot at least close" school of thought. A quarter ton of Harley is a lot to deal with at frequent stops in rain/inclimate weather, when your only contact is your tippy-toes.

I am not a short rider at 6'4" but I've had a knee replacement and the other knee is not far behind. I learned some years ago about parking my bagger in a way that I don't have to back up because the knees just are not willing. My daughter is worried a bagger is too big because of the tippy-toes while backing up. The part about parking the bike and letting the weight of the bike work in your favor is really great not only for short riders, but also for us fellas that have worn out legs from a lifetime of labor. I'd rather walk a an extra 30 yards for a space I can just pull right out of. You learn what those spaces look like in a very short time.

Bravo! Awesome video. One suggestion though... It's not ALL in your head. It takes knowledge of the right techniques and practice, practice, practice. I once saw a midget ride a sport bike. He could barely reach the shifter. When he got to a traffic light, he would stop, and jump off the bike, and stand next to it and hold it upright. When the light turn green, he would give the bike a small push, jump on and take off. After watching that guy do it, I no longer believe anybody is too short to ride a motorcycle.

See, I know I’m big enough to maneuver the bike. I’m 5’ 9” 175lbs, but I just feel like the size of the bike is gonna wash me out. A small person on a big bike? That works. A big dude on a big bike? That makes sense. A medium dude on a big bike feels like it’s gonna make me look smaller. I think skinnier bikes work better for my size, even though I could fit and handle a glide 🤷♂️

I road my 1952 FLH Hydraglide with it’s original wishbone rigid frame, plus a jockey shifter and suicide clutch, no front brake or fender for many many years and almost 220k miles. Over 50 rear tires, a dozen or so top end rebuilds and God only knows how many quarts of oil and primary oil. I carried every single thing I needed to get her going and back on the road in my saddle bags including base gaskets, a piston, wiring, ignition cables, coils, points. Everything could be repaired less internal engine and transmission repairs. I’m 5’6” tall and about 190 lbs. I finally got my fill of the hard core trips and decided to buy a 2012 Ultra Classic for a change of pace and comfort. I held off on the Ultra because I thought it would be too heavy and big for me to sling around. Then I decided to try one out for a test drive for a week. I was sold after that. No problems whatsoever with handling it like I did. I now have over 90k miles and I’m going to trade it for a slightly used 2021 Ultra Classic with 6k on the clock. I’m sure that this will be the last motorcycle I ever buy for daily usage.

Thanks Guys. I jus bought my 1st 2021 Ultra Ltd. First Big Bike purchase ever. I'm a weekend rider only. And this Ultra Ltd is a heavy bike. I'm finding my bike really has enough torque at low speed to help me do slow turns. Yay - slow riding is not that big a challenge. My current fear is dealing with the weight when I am faced with some emergency stop. The break system on the bike is equally awesome. I'm about 5,6" - not that short. Huge thanks for the video. Great video. As a vertically challenged senior citizen male, my problem is not so much with the height of the seat but with the distance of the foot controls away from me which aggravates my sciatica. If I cannot sit upright with my feet almost underneath my knees, my ride ends in 20 minutes. My back has to be vertical and not in a slouch position. That's why I ride a standard Sportster with mid-controls. Which of the baggers offers mid-controls instead of forwards?
@OMGMOTO3 жыл бұрын

You might be more comfortable on a Heritage. Although it has floorboards, the rider triangle will support a posture that won't trigger your sciatic nerve. Good luck!

I'm only 5'6" I just got a 2015 Road Glide special. After riding a 08 Ultra Classic for like five years. The 15 Road Glide is far lower. Allowing me to put both feet on the ground flat footed. The floor boards allow me to reach the controls. Which are amazingly closer (or seem to be) than my Ultra Classic. The entire bike just seems to " Fit" me. Unlike the Ultra Classic, that was just built differently. The newer series of Road and Street Glide are built differently. Far better suspension systems. Lower inseam heights, with the availability of adjustment and or lowering. In my opinion, when there's a will, there's a way!

harley really should add the reverse gear like in the goldwing in these big behemoths

I see a LOT of women about her size riding baggers. After finally riding a 2014 harley electra glide ultra classic I see why people like them so much!!! Will definitely be looking into a street glide or a road glide myself.

I intentionally look for parking spots where I don't have to push my bike back and if I have no choice and am riding with others, they help me and vice versa.

Awesome! I don’t like the look of huge bikes but food for thought here. Courtney needs her own channel she would do well out here!

She gives me a lot more confidence watching her. I’m looking for my first bike. I’m 6 foot.
@OMGMOTO9 күн бұрын
That was the intent of this video. To give people confidence, and at the same time help them to know there are people out there that can do things that seem difficult.

Thinking bout going up to a bagger I am 5’7 but have weak legs so I would think parking and moving up hills would be hard any advise btw your are beautiful
@machwheels86423 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Now can you do one about parking please on the bagger and backing the bike up. I am 5 ft just got a streetglide and parking lots are the most difficult For me. Thank you

Just have a good set of crash bars and you better make sure you don't come to a stop in the high point of the road. Oh backing the motorcycle up let's see her fo that. I have a Harley Road King and a Yamaha Fjr1300. I have a 32" inseam so on the FJR with the seat height at 32" you better be very good when stopping or backing up. As many short and old people ride Harleys they need a reverse gear option this would increase sales. I'm 5-10 and would buy one with a reverse gear.

Yes, for sure, in general on the crash bars. Thank you, for watching.

Hi, I am also 5Ft nothing. I just bought a Street Glide & I was wondering what shocks did Courtney use to lower her bike please.

I bought mine already lowered so I'm not positive, but I can look tomorrow! :) also look at iRide!! It automatically lowers in lower speeds :)

I've got a 2015 RGS. I lowered the front. I picked it up new with 3 miles. It's got 114,000 now.

I'm not as short as you. You make it look easy. Where I am intimidated, is trying to back the bike up using my feet. Don't know how many times I dumped the bike backing up because of almost no foot traction. Any advice?
@OMGMOTO3 жыл бұрын
Courtney always tries to not back in.
@donens93103 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it's not always possible to avoid it. I have older Goldwing which is lower than alot of bikes and tip toes can be more than a challenge since my feet have no traction that way.
@OMGMOTO3 жыл бұрын
@@donens9310 We will look into this and see what we can come up with. Thanks for the comment.

I’m 5’2. I’ve taken out a Road king but I’ve always wanted a Street Glide. Ask Courtney if she would kindly jump on a Street Glide, is it too hard to see over the fairing? Cheers
@OMGMOTO3 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea and thank you for watching.
@courtneygroom78203 жыл бұрын
The only problem I have with the big bikes and seeing over the faring is if I am trying to pull up close to something in front of me and I will just look underneath the faring. Riding down the road tho is no problem for me on Street Glides or Road Glides! :)
