I don’t like my mother breathing down my neck when i’m studying. Once, i was intensely concentrating like in the zone and suddenly realized my mother’s face on my shoulder literally. It definitely freaked me out, her unexpected presence startled me enormously.

I had a big project with a tight deadline, and my boss breathed down my neck, and then I was burnt out. I had to presenteeism, and my work-life balance was terrible. However, I have a friend who works at a great company, and her job is very flexible, but she finishes her job too, so it's a win-win for her and her company. I then quit my old job and joined my friend at her company. (This is just a made-up story. I'm fine.)

Thank you for BBC learning English. The this topic was so close to my life, because most people have bad job experiences at the one time in their life. I have been facing bad job experience more than 2 times. The reason was bad salary, inflexible and presenteeism. After the my bad job experiences, I have got work-life balance.

I'm currently a high school student, so it's quite tricky for me to imagine my working life in the future. However, burnout has emerged in my academic life for several times and the most feasible remedy for me is reuning with my family as well as choosing a win-win on my own. It will be unfortunate if I have a supervisor breathing down my neck, but I'll make every endeavor to overcome and earn a colossal amount of money in order to have a stable life.

What is the difference between a boss and an employer?
@bbclearningenglish Жыл бұрын
Often they can have the same / similar meanings, but there are some differences. A boss is generally a person, but an employer can be a person or a company. Your employer is the person or business who hires and pays you, but a boss is more involved in supervising of staff.

Well work hard and Failure to achieve a work - life balance can lead to being burnout at end..breathing down my neck and presenteeism over and over again can make me feel nervous It's like I'm being watched by someone waiting for a mistake. So it doesn't about salary but it's about what job we enjoy in doing that without feeling bored.. And of course, we have to achieve a work-life balance cuz that's crucial.

@learnenglishgoplaces Жыл бұрын
Here, it means "to move away" from, which, metaphorically means to stop thinking about things in one way and start thinking about things in another way. It's shifting, or moving, from one way of thinking to another way of thinking.
