Quite a few of these in Devon and Cornwall. I’m in Cornwall and have 3 refill stores in a 20 minute drive from me. I’ve also started buying from the Greengrocers and the Butchers. Using my own containers in all 3, cutting down soooo much waste!

There was a shop like this in Walsall, West Midlands over 15 years ago but it closed down. At the time, I thought it was great and glad to see this shop in Devon.

2020 will be a new decade. But if its new we should definitely have zero waste shops. Why should we? 1- Makes less trash for the environment 2- So we don't run out of places to put the trash at 3- The trash won't be killing lots of animals anymore It would be very helpful if this happens!

Zero Waste is a marketing term and does not mean green. In fact, it actually may be very bad for the environment. I'll explain why. Plastic is a byproduct. I feel like I even need to explain what a byproduct is. Byproduct means that it is not the main commercially viable product that one would produce in the process. The main product that makes a profit in this instance is gasoline or any refined petroleum products. Plastic just comes along for the ride. Whether you use or not, it will be made. It will be wasted, as long as we keep using gasoline. Zero waste stores buy bulk, which translates to overseas sourcing like China. Overseas means more gasoline use in terms of freight transport in sourcing country, packaging, freight across the Pacific, and freight to the store. Double paper bag even recycled means more gasoline use mainly due to the weight of the product. The realistic impact of zero waste is far offset by the fossil fuel usage of the idea. It is MUCH greener to buy local. Local farmers market is convenient and reduces your carbon footprint. Zero Waste stores is a marketing fad for uninformed, although well-intentioned individuals (if you noticed of a certain ethnicity and generation).

No, this idea to not use plastic was first initiated in Japan and Denmark was the first country to become successful followed by America and Germany. In just few years it's been seen taking over in UK and now it has slowed started in many countries around the World. Infact Humans in the past never knew or even heard plastic. Plastic is a modern technology. So there is nothing new here just what our ancestors were doing once in the past we are trying to just adopt it back.
