When I was a kid, I saw him at Hinkle Field house. It was SRO everytime he played. He was never flahky because his highschool coach didn't like showboats. Oscar was the most fundamentally sound player of all time. Larry Bird was the only other player on his level. Both could play all 5 positions, shoot, pass , rebound and make their teammates better.

As a skinny 8th grade boy in 1965 I got Oscar Robertson's autograph in Spokane as he was getting ready to play the LA Lakers in a pre-season game. Oscar was so gracious and his signature was beautiful, not some scribbled lines. On that slip of paper I also had signatures from Jerry West, Jerry Lucas, Gail Goodrich, Walt Hazzard, Rudy LaRusso, John Block, Hank Finkle, Jim Barnes, Darrel Imhoff, and 2 or 3 others. I kept that in my wallet and unfortunately went swimming in the Little Spokane River and forgot to take out my wallet. The autographs were ruined!! My bad. The players were all so nice and accommodating. Much different than today's players.

Bro, USA isn't the entire World, "soccer" (FOOTBALL) is the biggest sport in world. "Soccer" still needs less gear, in basketball u need a basket and a good ball, this is not cheap. In soccer here in Brazil u just pick any ball, anything can be your goal and we pick any shoes, we even play with no shoes, but with basketball, the basket is essencial and its like 80-200 dollars here, the ball is 20-25 dollars. And a soccer ball is just 10 dollars...

Did you punks hear Garnette? They put ZONE in the league because the international players were not good enough to play against the NBA's defense. ZONE made it easier to score and that was the only defense international players could play against. Other than that they would end up worse than Toni Krukoc who had a hard time being a top NBA player. Remember, Toni was called the Michael Jordan of European basketball. But when he got to the NBA in the 90s, he became just an average player.

@Alluviale Daempfer - There was really very little Dr. J could say, because he was able to use the feud and player tampering between the NBA and the ABA once it was time for him to pursue professional basketball. When the NBA and the ABA merged, Virginia. Even though Gervin and Erving played for the same team and were teammates during the 1972-1973 season, Erving had more financial interest vested in the Squires. So he needed the merger and the trade to compensate what the Squires had promised him for not originally signing with the NBA. Gervin was able to go to the Spurs and make more than what was ever offered/promised to him while playing in Virginia. The only thing that was going on with the badger between Roberson, Gervin, and Garnett was Gervin is an active part of the Spurs organization so he understands the expansion and what's happening overseas, and Roberson's involvement as a working part of not only a teams operations, but also that of the league, Erving has never held any of those types of positions once he retired. Garnett was trying to hang, but he's still learning on how to be a host when it comes to staying out of a discussion and when to steer it in the direction that informative, but also entertaining to the viewers.

If the zone degense has indeed been reimplemented, I cant say. I lost interest in the game. Because the one on one favored the offense. These guys are saying that the Zone defense was implemented to accommodate the " European player." I state the rules were changed in the first place because "innercity Basketball" became photogenic. The isolation driving around. Seems to me Dr. J had plenty of arms diretching out over one of his truly spectacular dunks. M.J. ? The rules were changed. It (NBA) became boring. Lonzo ball will flourish if they TRULY IMPLEMENTED THE zone defense. Incomparable.
