'Thika' got it's name from an alteration of a similar Kikuyu word which means "to bury". It is believed that an 1800 community war between the Agikuyu and Maasai over natural resources in the area led to the deaths of hundreds of warriors who are believed to have been buried in now modern-day Thika town, hence the name.
