And in the future he learn to harness the power of Oblivion's destructive magic in the palm of his hands. Riding into Jagar's castle of darkness and slaying wave upon wave of demonic minions, he finally arrived at the throne room where an epic battle ensued. After the Canage, the Champion stood victorious over Jagar's decimated but still living body. He demanded he be sent back in the past. Knowing the end was near, Jagar granted him his wish and opened a portal to which again flung the champion to the past. And as Jagar lay there dying along on the floor, he grinned and laughed for he knew his final act was another deception. The champion told him to open a portal to the past, but did not specify what point in the past. As our champion awoke, he found himself in a strange time ruled by a class of elf not totally unlike Jagar, but completely different from the others he has ever seen. Overtime he saw how these elves treated his fellowmen (who were also different in appearance to what he had remembered) and grew to hate them. He finally snapped. Using the destructive forces of oblivion which he could still harness, he dawned his enchanted armor and swore to destroy them. Armies fell before him as he challenged Warlords, and military leaders to duels to the death. And so began the legend of Pelinal Whitestrake.

I also began on Morrowind. It was my fav TES game, still is. After it is daggerfall, then Arena & Skyrim. I loved how rich the lore was in Morrowind. Every book was readable unlike following games. You'd go to Vivec city, visit the library, read about his life & find out he was a hermaphrodite! Then you'd read up on the past, how the Dunmer were cursed. There was this Khajit in Caldera, my city of choice where I stored my stuff, she would mention she was indeed a thief, but justified it like a Khajit totally would. Paraphrasing "If people really value their belongings, get a better lock, or do they not care if they're stolen?" Haha. I nodded the game after years of playing. I started off fixing some seemingly broken things like magicka not regenerating like in later games, meaning mage only class is nearly impossible unless you carry potions and somehow can afford them. I also fixed it so Khajit & Argonians could wear helmets & boots since their anatomy didn't allow it in game. Later after experience nodding more, I took in the lore, made full quests with new dungeons, good stories, all lore friendly. At 1 point there was a project going on where the best modders were working together to create all of Gabriel as we had no assurance that it would be done officially like ESO mostly did. Try Arena, Daggerfall, & Morrowind out. The 1st 2 are DOS games so you'll need to do all the DOS junk from the past. There are guides, it's not a big deal. Though I must warn you, fast travel and quest arrows, hah, no way. Not until Oblivion other than a few services, spells (mark, recall) & intervention magic (divine & almsivi). 1 big tip for your character to gain more hp when you level, level up spears, they are endurance & only a small amount of skills lol that, meaning you'd have low hp otherwise. Also don't fight Dagoth Ur without doing what is asked of you. You can fight him but you'll never win. Wanna get insanely strong so much it's broken? Get vampirism. You'll be hated and attacked in sight, but you'll be able to literally jump over buildings. You can be a werewolf and be accepted by society so long as No one sees you transform. If you get the ring, there's an issue where using it to force a transformation too much causes either permanent werewolf form of random transformation times, it's weird. I made a fix for that, not sure if it's still up though. It's been 17 years. Also, Morrowind had so many more diverse spells than later games! What happened to levitate? So yeah, oblivion & Skyrim had less issues, better graphics & such but I feel the older games were more like a fantasy that got you immersed.

0:51 - I started with Oblivion. Then played Arena, then played Morrowind and then finally played Skyrim. I picked up Oblivion for my birthday the year it released (I was in high school at the time). Oblivion quickly became my second favourite game ever after playing it. And I couldn't get enough of it, so I tried Arena (which I was able to get for free, hence why I tried that first) and then tried Morrowind (which I bought on the cheap in my local game store shortly afterwards). And then, obviously, a few years later Skyrim came out and I played that on launch. I have to say though, I only played a little bit of Arena and Morrowind. For Arena that game is very, very dated. Morrowind is less dated but there were some things that didn't quite work for me with Morrowind. The lack of regenerating magicka is one such thing, having to read big texts is another such thing. I like reading but when I'm in the mood to read I sit down and read a book. When I'm playing a game I don't want to spend hours reading, I want to be actually playing the game. And I know many people love there not being a quest compass in Morrowind, and that's fine, but I have to say that for me personally that really annoyed the hell out of me. There were so many moments where I just wanted to advance with the story and instead I'm searching for the "5th house on the left in Balmora" or something. All of it annoyed me enough that I eventually quit the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Morrowind is a great game and reading up on its lore is fascinating, but that stuff really didn't make it a pleasant experience for me. I'm hoping that Skywind will give me an opportunity to experience a version of the game and story that doesn't have all of those things.

I played Elder Scrolls - Arena when it first came out (yeah I'm old). Funny thing was it wasn't a huge hit on release, it was an obscure title from a little known publisher and almost faded away. Arena was really saved by word of mouth (there was no internet to speak of back then), then the gaming magazines started taking notice. It was an excellent game for the time, though by today's standards it would be considered a buggy, exploit ridden mess. For instance the game was suppose to take close to 100 hours to win, however there was a spell called "Passwall" that would let you walk through dungeon walls, the spell was normally expensive to cast and had a very high failure rate, however there was an exploit where you could enchant a staff with 99 charges of the spell which never failed or cost magic and essentially just walk in a straight line to the quest target avoiding the huge dungeon mazes entirely and all the creatures and traps within and grab the staff piece. Using this exploit it was possible to solve the entire game in about 3 hours.
