I saw this on tv when it was first shown in 1990/91? I’m still mesmerised by the old footage of these beautiful, fragile young punx carving out their own cultural territories when soho was illicit and dark. What an era to have been young❤️

The difference between US and UK was in the UK it was a movement that sparked off in London and spread like lightening through the whole country in a way that didnt catch on in the US.Punk was a concious way of life to thousands of kids throughout the UK. America had some great bands though!

Very beautiful documentary, an unrepeatable moment, the most powerful bands, the explosion of a new way of making music, punk changed my life, punk is not just sound, it's an internal state, or is it inside you or you will never be punk, freedom of expression at maximum power thanks for the upload we are the survivors and we still fight, anarchy, no borders no army no flag ✊

I didn't care about music, sports, anything. Then i heard SEX PISTOLS,X-RAY SPEX,STRANGLERS,RAMONES,on a 60 minute tape. Punk became my obsession, 40+ years ago. Still infected.

Love the comment by Johnny Rotten at 28:25, and the juxtaposition of ABBA with "Pretty Vacant" at 47:50. Brilliant.

Punk is been real not putting on an act. If your horrible be horrible. If your nice be nice.. But most importantly be yourself..

Difficult to actually say what was punk. The Stranglers were regarded as so, at the time and were more punk than the Sex Pistols who were too contrived and stage managed. As for The Clash, they didn't sell many records until the 80's. These 2 bands supposedly dominated Punk and The Stranglers are airbrushed out of history but we all know the bloke's from Guildford were the best.

@@melprice8961I totally agree with the first 2.Dont know your 3rd choice Edit:Just looked it up.I was never really into the Stanglers as such although i do have their greatest hits album.I think it was the prominent keyboards that kinda softened the music a bit too much for me.However i do like certain songs:Peaches,Grip,Always the sun. Then there's the story of my life:Golden bloody Brown.

Great film. Johnny’s really not being honest with himself though about the Pistols, they were 100% a London version of NYD! BUT…and it’s a big but…. the entire attitude of punk was totally down to him, which makes ALL the difference. Without Rotten it’d all just amounted to very little I suspect, like the Damned would have with their speeded up 12 bar blues or the Stranglers would impersonating the Doors. Rotten was the difference. Buzzcocks were the only other true punk band because they were brand new with new ideas and a true DIY mentality that transcended the boring old rock and roll template. Great to see Steve Shy on this, RIP.
