Ares - Hercules&Xena Lore

Hello everyone! Recently we celebrated the 25th anniversary of "Xena: Warrior Princess", so if you are a xenite (like me) - congrats! And to mark this date somehow I decided to make a video about one of the main characters in the franchise and chose Ares. Hope I did him justice :)

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys is an American television series filmed in New Zealand, based on the tales of the classical Greek culture hero Heracles (Hercules was his Roman analogue).
In the series Hercules, aided by his best friend Iolaus, goes on many adventures helping people and slaying mythical monsters using his half-god strength.
Xena: Warrior Princess is an American fantasy television series filmed on location in New Zealand, the narrative of which follows Xena, an infamous warrior.
Xena, a mighty Warrior Princess with a dark past, sets out to redeem herself. She is joined by small town bard, Gabrielle. Together they journey the ancient world and fight for the greater good against ruthless Warlords and Gods.
Young Hercules is a prequel series from the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
The series cover the adventures of Hercules as a boy, during his time at a training academy for warriors.

With Xena around as a witness, they would probably be fighting over her. She was with both of them after all. Hercules appealed to Xena's good side, and Ares appealed to Xena's bad side, so naturally both brothers would clash in opposition of each other, whilst trying to influence Xena's life.

for those who don't know who Cupids Father is Ares / Mars is actually the father of Cupid and cupids mother is Aphrodite

Yeah ares was a popular one on Xena and Hercules. You plan on doing bios on aphorodite, hera, poseidon, Hercules' friends lolouas? I still can't believe the actor that played Ares died. RIP Kevin Smith.

Totally agree about Kevin, it feels like he's still somewhere out there living his life... About bios - yes, I will do it. If you are interested in those specific characters I'll focus on them next :) My global plan is to cover all the characters and maybe places of interest in the franchise, though it won't be achieved anytime soon :D But we'll get there ;)

My theory is that the Xena-Hercules universe is actually two universes...In the first Universe which is the Actual universe the Olympians survived the Twilight also in this universe Kevin Sorbo is the modern incarnation of Hercules....The second Universe is based on the Legendary Xena Scrolls and is in fact a Universe-within-a Universe- The Scrolls were used to make a Xena TV series where the Gods died in the Twilight

The Sovereign wasn't imprisoned by Nebula, when Iolas was escaping the alternate world, the Sovereign chased after him through the portal, and he became trapped in a realm between the worlds. Nebula had no idea where the Sovereign was, and in his absence she set herself up as the Empress. Hercules came to the alternate world and passed himself off as the Sovereign for a while, much to her delight, and Nebula was very disappointed when she learned that he was a fake, and that Ares had killed the real Sovereign.

Now that I think of it, yes, you're probably right. Sovereign was in a cell when Ares came to him, that's why I assumed he was Nebula's prisoner :)

@@heroeslore He was never in a cell, he was stuck in the "limbo world" between realities. Ares, being a god, was able to travel there. That's where he fought the Sovereign, and that's why he was able to kill him without also killing Hercules. They had established before that killing someone in one world killed their counterpart as well, but since his death happened in the "limbo world", it didn't count and Hercules didn't drop dead at the same time. That's also how the alternate Iolas was still alive even though the "main" Iolas was killed, because the alternate Iolas was in the limbo world at the time of main Iolas's death. Rewatch the episode, Sovereign was never in a cell, he just couldn't figure out how to escape the limbo realm.

What confused me was in the beginning they used a different character for Ares, and didn't they defeat him at one point? Then suddenly they change his actor abd and he's Hercules's brother. How many brothers does Hercules have?

Not sure I understand what you mean by “character”… he always had the same character starting from YH and till the end of Xena. Just maybe became a little softer at the end :) And what actor exactly was changed? Iphicles was always played by Kevin 🤔 About how many brothers Hercules had: A LOT considering Zeus’s love for women xD Something around 12 in total.

What you say is true. He never appeared in Hercules only voice, or using different cgi forms. His first appearance was in Xena

Is it possible that Melinda Pappas and janice Jack direct descendants from eve joxer Gabrielle or jack Melinda Pappas janice may have come from toris ,one of joxer brother, sarah?

Well, Ares said in that episode that he needed a descendant of Xena to release him. So Melinda is definitely a descendant of Eve and not Toris since Toris has his own separate line of descendants. He and Xena both are descendants of Cyrene, but then there are two separate lines of descendants - those of Xena and those of Toris. Hope my explanation is okay xD As for Janice and Jack, Ares simply says that they are related to Gabrielle and Joxer, so it's unclear if they are direct descendants or not.

Yes, of course it is connected. These 3 shows (Young Hercules, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and Xena: Warrior Princess) are all parts of one universe.

One thing that was not hercules reincarnation but hercules himself because Ares said why are you pretending to be mortal and Hercules replied the world is not ready for him. The one Ares is trapped in 1940 is alternate future where Xena did not kill the gods recall she killed Hephastus if Hephastus was dead there is no way he would have been able to build Ares's prison. There also one future where Zeus is still alive and Ares you know how dad hates actors and Hercules replies when did you start caring what Zeus thinks before saying the world is not ready for the truth
