Yvonne Taylor Aretha learned over time how to be the mighty woman she is. In one interview, Aretha was 27 and she admitted she didn't know herself and was learning about life but look at her throughout the years how she commanded of her life and demanded of others. And please note she didn't demanded with crudeness but with kind and penetrating words.
@colorpurple46236 жыл бұрын
@@TransformedSoul466 i dont she was 27 more like 22, but any who, we are forever learning, like she said she need to find out who and what she is but never how to conduct herself in public or itherwise, which is what the topic made reference to.
@TransformedSoul4666 жыл бұрын
Color Purple I am not sure that we are talking about the same interview. I am talking about the interview, "1968 Special Report: Aretha Franklin" One, she was about 26/27 at the time. Two, she clearly establishes within the first five minutes of the interview that she didn't know "who or what I am" This meant she was still developing this big persona that she would embody as the Queen of Soul. Lastly, you can tell from her presentation that she was quite reserved and calculated, somewhat shy. Unlike the interview of her latter years where she was bold, outspoken and very comfortable in her skin.

she was just like any other sista' out here in the World, away from the lights and cameras...but when she opened that mouth to sing, Aretha Franklin was on a whole different planet. I will miss her...her sense of humor...her unapologetic nature, where her being BLACK and supportive of black people, are concerned. And I will miss her stage presence....like what she showed when she performed at Clinton's inaugural gala. I thought I was watching royalty on stage, when she unwrapped that mink/silk cloak and curtsied before the audience.

Aretha was such an intelligent woman, with a beautiful speaking voice. A musical genius, truly. As a musician and singer. She knew what was great. There aren't many. She knew that she was great. Men rise to the occasion with No Sweat!! She didn't like interviews - unless it was a good looking man complimenting her. But she's relaxed and having a good time here. Canadian interviewers are much more low key and better researched. Even Whitney warmed up a bit with the press in Canada. I love that Ed Sullivan question! So random. Aretha did a gorgeous guest spot on Tom Jones. The Party's Over.

Aretha says her father made her grounded and not act like a star but there is no denying Aretha acted like a Diva on many occasions! How many times would she have entered a building and expected the top treatment and the best people..most likely every time she was due to appear on TV or stage..so she basically lied about that during the interview.
