Thanks for this amazing footage. People were not sure what she was giving with being carried in by several men and the Egyptian wardrobe. Everybody always wanted to tell her who she should be and how to dress and how to sing. Love Aretha for doing her when others chose not to.

I remember her singing this song ' but did not know this existed! She sang from the heart and soul, not holding back what she felt .Her naked emotional expressions drew countless fans to her. to her. She could make you feel the sorrows and pain of life, or take you to the heights of joy, love, rhythm and gospel feeling. With a combination of a God -Given multi octave voice and ability to sing several styles from gospel to jazz, pop and even opera sets her apart. Yes , she was the " Queen of Soul" but also much more.... incomparable, one of a kind, "Diva Suprene."!

You can tell here her voice has already started changing. This was the era where the throat surgeries started and her range went into that 1980s era from all her smoking. It wasn't fully gone at this point but it wasn't what it was in th Rock Steady era.
@articulatemadness4 жыл бұрын
@Freddie Davis Her voice in the Arista years is raspy, hollow, and wobbly. It doesn't sound anything like the Lady Soul era of Aretha. If you can't hear that I don't know what to tell you - the Arista years were her screaming years to me.

Hard to believe SPARKLE was only 2 years earlier. You Light Up My Life is basically unrecognizable. Thank goodness for RESPECT at the end

@@articulatemadness So “Jump to it”, “Get it right”, “Love all the hurt away”, “Who’s zooming who”, “Freeway of love”, “I knew you were waiting for me”, “Oh happy day”, and etc. are her screaming 🧐?
@articulatemadness3 жыл бұрын
@@noreneal7252 Definitely. She was doing that church scowling Dionne talks about all the time. It wasn't clear notes and her voice had gone halfway down by then. And for the record Cissy too, which can be heard on Jump To It. Cissy though always was the female Cecil Womack. Singing too loud background and off key.
@noreneal72523 жыл бұрын
@@articulatemadness lol 😂 leave Cissy alone 😂 nah it was just Aretha was going through a lot of stress and started smoking like crazy. Her voice got more raspy and husky. I liked it until about 89-91. Once she stopped smoking her voice was back in tip top shape, she just couldn’t keep that weight down. I like all Aretha’s different vocal eras and sounds. It spices things up and makes her unique.
