I PREFER HER 67- 69 FULL THROATED POWER SOUND (Sammy Davis Show) …. she was singing 🎤 SOTTO VOCE/ SOFTER BLENDED with a few power notes …. Unfortunately the BALANCE OF BACKGROUND SINGERS & BAND IS WAY OFF, & I hear the BACK UP OVER 👑REE….I hope someone RE ENGINNEERS this Performance This ALBUM put her back on TOP…

They probably never did a sound-check during rehearsal if there was ever a rehearsal done at all before the show. But Aretha was known for being one of the ones who would often speak up and ask for her mic to be turned all the way up or ask her long time conductor H.B. Barnum to "bring it down" as she would always say to him. Especially during the 1980's up until the end.

See, this is one of the comments that drives me insane. I mean, you have a right to your opinion. But why do people always pit women against women? When it comes to anything that they do to make a living. I really encourage it out, Irene Kyler wasn't trying to outsing Aretha. She did a version of the song that Aretha did that made it famous and I mean Kara had a great voice it she never thought that she was better than Aretha. She always gave homage to Aretha. I hate when people do that s***, it's ridiculous. It's like get over it, everybody has a right to make a living and sing the song you think. You think that I read this thing in bed but the way you say it is so nasty pitting women against each other ridiculyes? I surprised you didn't throw taylor swift in there, or i'm surprised you didn't throw whitney houston, and there

The music is loud dag they drowning them out
@AC-kl8gi2 жыл бұрын
The loud overpowering music is an outrage. Why would they allow that to happen? I could hear them lowering Aretha's mike early in the song. I love Aretha. The disgusting way the sound people treated Aretha and her background singers with the failure to properly mix the microphone with the music is very small. Was this racism at work? Probably. Aretha's performance was hi jacked! And almost as sickening is the comments in this blog not acknowledging this dirty trick that was pulled on the group. Disgusting.

Yes, you are in the minority. Aretha sang these songs far better than the movie versions. Plus Curtis wrote these songs with Aretha in mind, hints why she glided through them so effortlessly.

Fabulous performance by Aretha and the Tonight Show band (and the back-up singers). P.S.: Aretha was only 34, but that light-colored hair made her look older. The combination of the hair, blue sparkly eye shadow and dress did not work. All during her long career, she needed a good image/fashion consultant, but she was too stubborn.
@42abyz Жыл бұрын
I rather think Aretha's vocal aesthetic and her clothes were of a piece with her style of singing, her natural talent, and the era of Black American culture that produced her. She stayed true to herself and her vision of herself as a singer while adapting to the current times her way . She was/is the Queen, Her Royal Soulfulness, and did not have to be au courant with the entertainment/fashion scene throughout the decades of her life and career. She always did what was happening at a given time her way. She arethafied each song that she sang as any natural-born singer/artist does. Like the late Queen of England, Aretha knew that her first obligation was to her calling, the crown she wore, and the times that produced her.
@piustwelfth Жыл бұрын
@@42abyz During her long career, Aretha's clothes/costumes were all over the place. There didn't seem to be any consistency in what she wore which is a sign that Aretha did not have a fashion/image consultant. Only rarely did Aretha choose something that looked good on her. I think she chose clothes based on their appeal rather than how they would look on her. I'm far from the only person to have this opinion.
