An icon of 20th and 21st century music, the voice of the civil rights movement, and the undisputed Queen of Soul-there is only one Aretha Franklin. In her incredible six-decade career, Aretha evolved from teenage gospel star to reigning pop and R&B diva, recording classics like “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Chain Of Fools”, “Think” (lyrics by Aretha Franklin), definitive versions of the songs “Respect” and “I Say a Little Prayer”, and global hits like “Freeway Of Love,” “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”, and “A Rose Is Still A Rose.”
Altogether, 112 of her singles reached the charts, with 20 No. 1 R&B singles, the most ever by a female artist. She won 18 Grammy Awards (including the first eight trophies for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance) and, out of recognition for her for indelible contribution to American music and culture, received both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Pulitzer Prize.

@@lynndollar1013 Yes, I love that one as well. The reason why I like Aretha Franklin's the best is because it is the first version I listened to, and it just stuck. I wish modern music was as good as the music of the 60's and 70's.

One of the amazing features of this recording is that the only instruments are a piano, stand-up bass, acoustic guitar, and drums. Aretha’s voice and the back-up singers are so strong, it fills it out like you’re hearing an orchestra. Rare and exceptional talent.

Burt Bacharach and Hal David launched a bushel of superstars in the 60s and 70s with his compositions. My musical tastes are pretty eclectic anyway but Bacharach was among my favorite composers as a kid, right in the midst of the British Invasion and rock revolution. Guess I'm an old soul but even as a kid I got off on Adult Contemporary, and Burt Bacharach _owned_ the genre back then.

I LOVE ARETHA AND YET, BOTH VERSIONS ARE SIMPLY EQUALLY ICONIC. Aretha's could be argued more soulful and yet the arrangement and Dionne's diction and tone is simply magical. It really depends on what mood you might be in. I love the trumpet solos on Warwick's version from the 60's it's just the best, but Aretha highlights the BG singers and it to is surreal the emotion it brings. Whatever version I just happened to hear when it comes on I find myself just as happy to hear.

It sounds like most people remember the very first time they heard this song. Add me to the numbers. I managed a Walgreens, and it's still probably the most boring job I've ever worked. All we had to rely on to get through the day was music. Sadly, they played the same playlist nearly every day. With this song, though, I would stop and listen and indulge in the simplistic beauty of it. Yes, it's beautiful all by itself. Just to hear it is to love it. Yet, if you've ever felt love. Like really, down in the pits of your soul, whether you lost it or have it to hold today, the most beautiful memories blossom while her melodic voice and words fill your heart, even if only for a few moments. We were blessed by the Queen of Soul's presence and impact on our world. In the words of the honorable Rev. Dr. Jim Lawson, "The great gift of life from creation is also the gift of the powers of love...The big task in the 21st Century is that wemove to let LOVE be the power in which we organize every facet of our society."

Dionne’s was beautiful and melodic BUT Aretha gave it meaning, made it real One of her very bests of all her greatest This and “A Natural Woman” should have Topped the charts Even though it was the “B” side to“The House That Jack Built”. Too many of Aretha’s great hits didn’t go all the way to the top.i.e “Until you come back to me”… of pop charts that is.

She just belts this out with perfect tone, without a single blemish, with a vocal range that would shatter glass. You just can't teach vibrato and note progression like this, this is 100% natural talent. God blessed her many times over. Gotta say, too, that whoever was doing backup was on their game. Perfect 3-part harmony and every note hit with precision.

Una melodía en verdad subliminal en la extensión de la palabra. Toda una delicia escuchar tan hermosa canción en seguir retumbando con el correr de los años.

That intro and background instrumental/vocal brings a kind of feeling that is so hard to explain.

Many years ago, that was the first song the love of my life dedicated to me. It's been almost one year since we broke up. Sometimes I bring to my mind all these beautiful moments we lived together and smile.
