What on earth happened to Nery Pumpido in 1990? Was he playing through an illness, or did he just suffer a dramatic loss of form and confidence, He had been such a reliable keeper in 1986, but in 1990 he looked tired and jaded, and a pale shadow of his former self - that was a catastrophic blunder on the Cameroon goal! He lasted about 10 minutes into Argentina's second match of the 1990 World Cup, before completely mistiming a rush, and breaking his leg after colliding with another player, and had to be substituted for Sergio Goyocochea - ironically, it was largely down to Goyocochea that Argentina recovered from this embarassing start and went on to reach the final - we'll never know now, but I find it very hard to believe that the jaded, lethargic Pumpido would have stopped all the penalties that Goyocochea did!

28 octubre 2023 han pasado más de 30 años en ese mundial de Italia 90 yo quisiera preguntarle a fallecido Diego Maradona que le pasó en este partido no fue el Maradona de México 86 estuvo marcado los africanos por su talla lo pararon en seco el partido los africanos lo tenían dominados e incluso no jugaron casi la mayoría de chicos que campeonaron en México 86 en ese partido se les hizo extrañar solo estuvo Batista Pumpido burruchaga y Maradona por supuesto pero pobre Pumpido si en el arco hubiera estado otro arquero o el pato fillol estoy seguro que no le harían ese bloopers y el partido hubiera termina empatado que les parece mmm 😊
