If you want these lovely Beethoven works played with piano, this Argerich/Maisky box still a milestone. Not easy to reach the beauty and perfection they get here. Beautiful, very. Martha Argerich is really brilliant here, proving to be one of the main pianists of past century. The recording is as good as them, Maisky sounds nice. So, everything goes together, explaining why this account is becoming a legendary one. Praised by both public and critics, if you hear it, you will want to have it. My prefered ones are 4th. and 5th., but like the whole. One of Beethoven peaks, for my kind. Highly recommend to hear and have it .

First movement was incredibly haunting, filled with visions of death, depression, heaviness pushing down. I think that Beethoven survived his torments without having a psychotherapist mainly because his art was effective and supportive therapy. A wonderful sonata played with so much love and talent. Great recording.

I always have been surprised by the fact that in formal terms Beethoven was rather inventive in his first and last "style", and rather conservative in his "medium" style. Here, he obviously wants to find something new in terms of form and global formal equilibrium.

It's incredible how fast they can play the Rondo without sacrificing any technical accuracy whatsoever. Way too fast for my taste, but perhaps Beethoven had such a rapid tempo in mind.

Yes, a bit too fast. And that is said to be a big defect on a pianist. It is quite uite often reproached to Argerich. Do not understand why she did not correct it. Pitty.

If so, then the Rostropovich/Richter tempo is also too fast. In other words, not too fast at all. I introduce into evidence, your honor, Exhibit A.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5-6fJmJqd1_kM0

As I said in the Richter / Rostropovich version too, yes, it’s too fast. As a pianist, I’ve played this sonata several times, and I can say that a lot of dynamics in either of the versions it’s not sounding. And it’s a bit too rude for my taste (remember this is the one of the sonatas where Beethoven was starting to show how well he was at the piano, that’s why it’s so hard for the piano). Even though I think I like this version a bit more than the other one.

this tempo gives such a fresh air, which is needed after those depressive movements. excellent for my taste

Poner publicidad en este tipo de contenido (audios musicales) en KZbin debería estar tipificado como delito, en serio. Menudo corte de rollo entre movimiento y movimiento con los putos anuncios!

Yeah, some times Argerich is a bit too fast. It has already been said, and according to my mother, who has the piano career, that is a big defect on a pianist. So, do not know what to say when am told she is too fast. Like their account of these sonatas, but still truth there may be better. In fact the Van Immersel with Bylsma at cello remain my favorite, but that is a fortepiano rendition, so... The same applies to the Ysserlis/Levin account, which I like very much too. So, would have to look for another piano rendition if you do not like this one for being too fast. Something quite often reproached to Martha Argerich.
