I think you just showed me exactly what I'm looking for. Don't think I can buy one any time soon though. 😢

I would like to see Umrel on this Nas setup, also where can I buy one?
@aljahdhami19982 жыл бұрын

Hi Todd ,I found the video very interesting . I too have a ARGON EON NAS with 4 x 2.5 hdd. Installed is OMV (Open Media Vault 5.6.24-1 (usul) I also purchased an nvme ssd adapter and a samsung ssd 980 to fit onto the internal USB3 port. My idea was to make the ssd a 5th storage,but not sure how to do this . Is it possible ?? Thank you

I really want to find out if I can run a few things on this instead of just a file server/NAS - PiHole and storing videos to be able to view them on a smart tv. I think that's openmediavault or CASA OS? Can the three tasks work alongside eachother in there?
@ToddSpatafore2 жыл бұрын
You bet! The way I have it set up it's just a Linux server so anything you can run on that you can run here. OMV and PiHole wouldn't be a problem at all. CasaOS looks like it'd work too, but I don't have experience with that.

@@ToddSpatafore It is basically a lot of media services in a single package made easy, MAYBE I could just install it, pihole, and set up hds. I also noticed you used mechanical drives. Are the speeds good enough through the pi and network for videos? I doubt I'd watch anything above 1080p anyway, so I'm hoping it can stream well when I get to it.

When does it go on sale? Want.

Knowing that this thing exists just makes the current $189 price of a RPi 4 8GB that much more painful :(
@leonoliveira86522 жыл бұрын
Ah, that explains the price on Aliexpress. I'm glad I got like FIVE 4gb models at a good price at the start of 2020, but this is actually painful now

why raid 5 through a single USB connection? You've just doubled your IOPS due to parity writes on every write IO operation. Or am I missing something?
@ToddSpatafore Жыл бұрын
Well, it was a neat experiment. I wouldn't use 4 HDD running through a single USB port for anything important.

@@ToddSpatafore What about 2x8tb 3.5" drives? I have the Argon NAS box and was planning on retiring my DNS-320 with one of these.
@ToddSpatafore Жыл бұрын
@@Guroth call me old fashioned but I wouldn’t do a NAS over USB regardless of the drives used.

I just got mine, but the fan is non-stop maxing out despite setting the speed to 10 percent. Did you have this issue or did I get a faulty unit?
@ToddSpatafore Жыл бұрын
I had that problem until I installed the software for it. I’d suggest reinstalling it

hi, it's possible to have a speed test for the transfer from the Pi on the Argon EON e Windows?
@ToddSpatafore3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sorry, that's good point. I was saturating my Gigabit Ethernet network with about 112MB/sec transferring files to this thing. I'm not sure what the speed would be on a faster network.

hostnamectl is the preferred way to update the hostname since systemd (not that I am a fan)... although it wont update /etc/hosts lvm now has raid support and might be a better choice for many people. Good video :)
@ToddSpatafore2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I'll use hostnamectl from now on.
