As a Liverpool fan, I have to argue against that. If you are saying a bigger result for people in Europe and basically any place other than North America and Australia, I agree. But here in the US, people are going crazy over the Super Bowl result, it was 40-6 at one point, something that has never happened in a super bowl. Also with Liverpool, given the team Arne brought with him, this result shouldn't be a huge shock. If even just half of the big names would have been brought along, then yes, but this way not really.

This was a conscious decision and win/win gamble by Liverpool's hierarchy to keep the first team fresh for the Prem and Europe: Play the kids and fringe players to give them game time and if they pull off the win, it's a bonus. if they don't, that's the lowest priority out of the way. The FA Cup final is a great day out, but a few days later, its all forgotten about and nobody remembers the winners from a few years ago. The CL and Prem are by far the most prestigious prizes in European football, and that's what Liverpool are focussed on.

A few facts amidst the hype: let's be honest, Argyle didn't beat Liverpool, they beat 'a Liverpool XI' made up mainly of fringe players and youngsters. As a Plymouth fan, I would have been really disappointed when seeing the LFC team sheet, not seeing any of the big guns at Home Park. That said, had the first team turned up, it would have been 5-0 by half time. Plymouth were solid in defense but only against a very weak and unimaginative Liverpool attack. And lets face it, Plymouth didn't score in open play, only had one or two genuine attempts and got lucky with the penalty. All that aside, I feel sorry for them because despite winning against a team that sent a clear message of 'sorry, bigger fish to fry', the world and his wife know that when they come up against a full strength Prem team who really want to win the FA Cup, they'll get well beaten. To be honest, this is the farce that is the FA Cup. Plymouth Argyle will celebrate this somewhat hollow victory and will now think that they can take on anyone in this competition, but they won't last the distance - in fact, since the Premier League was introduced in 92, not a single club from outside the top flight has won it... and that's not going to change anytime soon. The saddest thing is that if they played every week like they did against Liverpool, they wouldn't be in the mess they are in.
