solid sound, very musical, great technique & lip slurs, dynamics on point, just plain beautiful, pound for pound, one of the best recordings on youtube regardless of the few blurps. A++ in my book, wish i could do it half as good as you Mr. Okamoto.

Props to the pianist! I'm working on this and it's the most demanding accompaniment I've done in quite some time.

Played this (friend was the trumpet player; I was the accompanist) over 24 years ago for Douglas College Recital. The last Variation scared the living bejeepers out of me because of the speed. Hell...that pretty much convinced me that I had a future elsewhere other than music. Hello...wildlife photography.

I'm trying to accompany this and I'm with you. Holy - moly I'm going to have to miss notes and slow it down or get two accompaniests. This was fabulous! My hats off to both of you.

That 2nd variation is a killer on the lungs with such little space to properly breathe. You didn't even seem phased by it which was awesome!

Of course there were a couple missed notes, but in the grand scheme of things, it's kind of irrelevant compared to the beautiful tone, slurs, and understanding of the vibe of the piece. Awesome :)

Beautiful rendition, maestro ! In general, how is playing the cornet different than trumpet or flugelhorn? I've never tried a cornet but am thinking about it !
@-52494 жыл бұрын
Fugel Horn is muuuuchhhh different than both. Cornet is very similar to trumpet and is practically the same sounds
Beautiful however in the last measure of var. 5 u slurred it when it should have been tounged

Terrible! He butchers this piece! His contralto is abysmal,his fortissimo id alone in to that of Quasimodo! Amateur hour.
@probablecause48 жыл бұрын
Well played I disliked this for one reason only, it was performed wayyyyyy tooooooooo slow. The opening movement should be played at 120 bps. And closing movement is Allegro motto and it was not. Well done though except for a few minor mistakes and a lack luster ending.
@bk12345uk8 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I disagree with you there. This is how Handel intended to write this and how many variations have been performed. I myself prefer to play at this tempo.
@petergeorge33767 жыл бұрын
Yes but I have just played this myself and decided to take it at 108 because of in variation 2 where he missed most notes.
@paulbeyer30607 жыл бұрын
half note=120 means quarter note =60
@dkelzenb7 жыл бұрын
Whew, where to start. These are VARIATIONS, not movements. You say the "opening movement should be played at 120 bps." Perhaps an editor added a metronome mark, but this is a keyboard work, not a trumpet/piano work, which was transcribed. Handel did not indicate tempos, much less metronome markings. (There was no metronome in Handel's time.) His tempos are not "wrong." It's a personal choice, and your assertion that something "should be played" at a certain tempo is your opinion.
