I would be super concerned about airflow. Especially with air conditioning and freezing the coil???

agreed. air handlers have to maintain certain airflow. Vents like this restrict that. You need to make sure that this is approved for the AC System or your air handler will struggle and fail causing warranty issues, this could also cause your AC coil to freeze in the summer. So this vent, and others like it may be a huge problem for your HVAC system. Choosing to go down this route could end up being very costly
